HexBay is made using the latest in 3D printing technology. The main reason I pursue this path over traditional manufacturing methods is for its rapid prototyping capability. From concept design through to a functional prototype in less than 4 hours. If it wasn't for 3D printing, I would not have been able to get to where I am now in such a short period of time with traditional techniques.
Each HexBay has been creatively designed to lock with one another to restrict your ships moving around within the storage container.
Each cases has been designed at height intervals to allow for stacking on top of each other. By stacking HexBays, you form another level, making efficient use of the space available in your container both horizontally and vertically.
Your tactics change, new ships get introduced so why can't you have a flexible storage system that keeps up with you. HexBay offers the ability to pick and choose which ships you want to bring to the fight! This innovative design makes it future proof, so any new waves that get release like Wave XI in the second quarter of 2017, we have it covered. The beauty about the hexagonal pattern is that all the cases will connect with one another no matter the size or shape of the ship.
Each pledge that includes stretch goals will receive the following when reached. (remember you can upgrade your pledge to receive these).
Receive 3 additional points to spend. So if you choose a 35 points pledge, you now will have 38 points to spend.
When we reach this milestone, to celebrate the release of Wave XI, you will receive one case for each ship in the release additional to your pledge. That is a free case for the Tie Aggressor, Scurrg H-6 Bomber and Auzituck Gunship.
At this mark, you will receive a HexBay container that connects with the other HexBays, designed to hold dice, tokens, bases, cards and dials.

Hi, just me, Jean-Noel. I fell in love with this game coming from strategy gaming. Every facet from planning out my pilots and upgrades, placements, anticipating my opponents next move, only to get it all wrong is all I love about this game. Even just meeting new people at matches and the creative ways they play blows me away.
Armed with a strong Business Intelligence / Project Management IT background, rapid prototyping and 3D modelling from Game Programming and my passion for 3D printing, what more is needed.
Maybe taking out Store Champion 2015 with my Whisper mini swarm build gives me some credit.
I love X-Wing, but like with most war figurines games, it was a challenge to find a suitable storage container, let alone one that we can carry at any given time. So since there were limiting options available, I decided to look into creating one for myself. It wasn't easy at all. I have taken months and months, prototype after prototype, engaging with Facebook X-Wing groups, gathering value feedback to the point where I feel I have a solution that fits the core values I set out for.
I am open about my design process and I have kept it very simple. All up, from design to functional product it takes 2-3 hours, a little longer for large ships.
Phase 1 - 3D model and print the outline with the aim to be able to pass the outline over the ship. This does take a little tweaking and reprinting but I am able to get to a nice fit in under one hour.
Phase 2 - 3D model the tile base, holders for the pegs, grabbing area, correct final height and include the base intruding slot.
Phase 3 - 3D model the lid and do a fit test of lid and case with other cases.
As you can see, design process in the last section is fairly straight forward. I have perform several end to end tests for each of the ship sizes and have created a table based on those initial calculations. Based on these numbers, I am able to forecast how many printers I will need in my print farm to produce X number of orders within a four months period. It was a late decision to limit the amount of orders I will accept for this project as I strongly believe that we, as Kickstarter Creators need to put customers, you, ahead of greed.
The following table provides a guide to the point worth of a ship. This information will assist you when selecting the cases totaling the reward pledge you selected. For example, for the 8 point pledge, you may choose 8 x Tie Fighters or 1 x Firespray, 1 x Phantom and 4 x Tie Fighters or 1 x Lambda-Class Shuttle, 1 x Firespray and 1 x Tie Punisher.
No X-Wing figurines, dice, tokens, dials supplied with this offer, just cases.
Risks and challenges
With any project that involves the production and manufacturing of a real world products, there is the risk for hiccups and delays. This is due to third party delays, problems with an overseas factory, missing units, customs, and so on. The common dominator is the dependancy on third party suppliers.
HexBay is a simple design with very little dependancy on suppliers. I am the manufacturer, the product only uses one material and since the printer is open source hardware, spare parts for the printer can be sourced locally.
My supplier has plenty of the 3D printing filament and there is three other suppliers ready on standby. Once the campaign has ended, the printers will be ordered with loads spare parts to ensure there is at least 5 printers running at all times. I will also have my original printer that will act as both a backup or an additional printer in the farm if I feel I need to ramp up things.
