To make the launch cost as low as possible, we have decided to do all early production in house, this allows us to maintain quality whilst retaining flexibility. To achieve this we have designed and built our own laser cutter and several 3D printers, this will allow us to launch at a greatly reduced funding target.
With a complete redesign now using the Raspberry PI 3B+ on board to provide wireless communication and scanning Independent of your PC, whilst retaining full Raspbian desktop including web browser, mail client etc.
For our MK2 hardware we simplified the design and moved to duel uprights which substantially improves scanning accuracy and a belt drive turntable for more accurate and smoother rotation of the scanned object amongst many other improvements. Our aim from day one was to produce a highly accurate 3d scanner that could actually be used to build and reproduce objects.
We have looked at different technology’s such as lidar and Photogrammetry but if was obvious that these technology’s although they have the advantage of speed of scan, lack the accuracy required to produce usable models for 3D Printing.
By using line lasers we have achieved a staggering depth accuracy of 0.05mm.
We have developed our own, easy to use software and custom built controller electronics to produce a robust, modular 3D Scanner with the well established Raspberry Pi 3B+ and Pi V2 8 Mega pixel camera at its core, this allows the scanner to operate independently of your PC freeing you up to work while scans are in progress. Communication with the 3D Scanner from the PC / Laptop is done via wireless or cabled networking, simply send instructions to the scanner from our software and then let it get on with it. Scans can be edited and exported to an STL file for printing, through our simple to use yet powerful WildCats 3D editor software, with many unique features.

Our included PC based Scanner software communicates with the 3D scanner via network or WIFI, and allows you to select scan size, resolution and scan type.
The plot software (main project) has many features and options for the advanced user whilst remaining simple to use for beginners. This software has been built and tested on Windows 10. A comprehensive instructions PDF will be available with purchase.
Clicking new of the main interface will bring up the scripts panel which allows you to input the scanning parameters including diameter, height and resolution as well as scan type pan scan step and rotational step (a more sophisticated script designer will be available soon).
Once connected to the 3D Scanner various controls appear to allow manual control of the scanner hardware.
Our WildCats3D Editor software will include many powerful features including the ability to remove aberrant points in your scans, merge several scans together and apply points reduction algorithms, conversion to .STL, surface analysis, colour blending to name but a few.

Our included Raspberry PI 3B+ software runs independently from the PC and requires no Linux experience to use, it can be launched by just clicking an icon on the Raspbian desktop, we also include a web browser and email client pre installed into our PI software.
This pirate figure has lights, darks, shiny and reflective surfaces which makes for a hard object to get a good scan of, it also has many obscured areas again hard to scan.
