Hey, I'm Rey! Thanks for visiting my Kickstarter.
Growing up as a young Moroccan-American, I've searched for myself in media my whole life. I soon realized it was up to me to create the stories that reflected my American experience, being raised in a multicultural Muslim family. This led me to establish County Films in early 2018 as a 17-year-old college junior at Saint Peter's University.
I'm committed to creating authentic, relevant content for diverse audiences and providing an artistic outlet for Hudson County youth. In my first project, Suicide Spenders, I hope to shed a light on the truth of Generation Z's unique coming-of-age journeys. A successful New Jersey exclusive talent search yielded a full cast of local teenage actors and actresses who represent a rich variety of cultural lenses and creative perspectives.

What progress have we made?
This past fall, the first two episodes of Suicide Spenders came to life. In this dramedy where Heathers meets The Breakfast Club, six eclectic high schoolers form a suicide pact and a vow to live their final, rebellious days together. But they soon come to realize that their plan is not as seamless as it first appeared to be.
The focus is now on post-production and the preparation of a pitch package, which will be ready by early 2019.
What makes County Films different?
What sets Suicide Spenders apart is not only the diversity of the cast, but the authenticity of those behind and in front of the camera. It's set and completely filmed in Jersey City, New Jersey and the main cast is made up of undiscovered actors and actresses exclusively from Hudson County, New Jersey.
Generation Z is our main audience—we ask different questions and deserve different answers. Suicide Spenders comes from the unique perspective of being created by a member of Generation Z who is profoundly aware of what media our peers are searching for. A series that deals with pressing, contemporary issues—race, religion, social media, mental health, LGBTQ+ youth—in the brutally honest way that only young voices can provide is much needed.
This show can speak those truths—but we need your help to do so.
Where is this project headed?
The end goal of Suicide Spenders is to have the series picked up by a web streaming service such as Netflix and Hulu, or another production company where the remaining 10 episodes can have the opportunity to be produced. We need support, through social media and your donations, to infuse the energy and financing this project needs to be viable.
Where will my contributions go?
Here at County Films, we have big hearts and bigger ideas—but our resources are limited. Your much-needed contributions will go towards the expenses related to the production of the first two episodes of Suicide Spenders, including but not limited to:
- Paying our Director of Photography, Reid Petro; gaffer, Kiel Perez; and sound engineers, Tom Lino and Jon Moore (they're the best!)
- Hair and makeup by the amazing Mallory Callaghan
- Equipment rental costs
- Marketing and promotion of the project
- Editing software
- External storage for our footage
- Marketing and promotion
- Music production/licensing - we hope to produce a soundtrack as a future revenue generator
Message from the Director
All throughout my life, I've never limited myself to what seems "practical." From graduating high school at thirteen to starting my own series from scratch, I'm not afraid of a challenge. Producing the media I needed when I was younger is what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I can't do it alone.
We're not the kids you usually see on television: we represent the stories we've been looking to see on-screen our whole lives.
Both I and the incredible people who made this project possible believe firmly in our story and the strong direction of this project—will you give us chance?
Risks and challenges
Our production will be premiering in Spring 2019 at Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey. However, the rest of its future is in your hands. We need to reach our full funding goal by the deadline in order to ensure County Films' mission of telling underrepresented stories can continue.
We are committed to getting this project picked up and professionally produced, but we need your help to do so.
Your donation, no matter how large or small, will help make our mission possible. Make a pledge today.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
