Learning isn't about grades or test scores. It's about curiosity, approaching the world with wide-eyed wonder, and feeling empowered to figure out the answers to your questions.
Curiosity Packs inspire a love of learning by bringing families together to explore. Through boxes of age-appropriate activities, children ages 3-10 will learn about letters, numbers, friendship, science, art, love, and every other intriguing subject you can imagine.
Designed by an experienced teacher and based on educational research, Curiosity Packs will engage kids in learning through inquiry. Kids will learn important content while also learning the skills that engaged learners use: looking closely, asking questions, investigating, and reflecting. These skills help kids see learning as fun and powerful, an outlook that will last throughout their lives.
All the while, parents will be empowered to step into the almighty role they play in their kids' education. Curiosity Packs will come with information on how parents can support their child's learning. Want to learn about how to encourage your child to love math (even when you don't)? Wondering how in the world kids learn to read? Even more content for parents can be found on the Curiosity Pack blog.
The Very First Curiosity Pack: All About Letters!
The first Curiosity Pack was designed for kids ages 3-6 and focuses on learning letters. It will consist of four parts: an activity book, a matching card game, a poster, and a hide-and-seek alphabet picture. After the first pack, Curiosity Packs will be created for kids ages 3-10.
In the activity book, kids will get to explore letters and the sounds that they make. Instead of simply having kids write letters over and over, this activity book will encourage kids to look closely at letters, think about how they are similar/different, and apply their knowledge to the world around them. When kids start with wondering about the letters they see around them, they’ll be well on their way to learning how to read.
In the matching game, kids will have cards with monsters on them. Some cards have a monster plus one other item, like a dinosaur or a slide. Other cards have letters on them. Kids will work to match the letter cards to the cards that have things that start with those letters. The game can be played again and again, reinforcing the importance of letter sounds.
The poster brings back the monster alphabet, teaching both letter formation and letter sounds. Hanging up the poster gives kids a chance to explore letters on a daily basis. Plus, it’s super cute!
Finally, the hide-and-seek alphabet picture has letters hidden in it. It’s laminated, so kids can use a dry erase marker (included in the Curiosity Pack) to circle the letters they find again and again.
All the activities in the first Curiosity Pack will prepare kids for reading by getting them excited and familiar with letters and the sounds that they make.
Help Get This Party Started
When you donate to this campaign, you'll help to fund the production of the first Curiosity Pack. The production costs include printing the activity books, cards, card boxes, hide and seek pages, and posters as well as packing materials.
In exchange for your donation, you can receive a Curiosity Pack for you or a friend. You can also donate a Curiosity Pack to a child in need. We'd love to give high-needs preschools and kindergartens Curiosity Packs for their kids to take home this summer.
You can also donate a materials to a teacher you know or a teacher from our Superstar Teacher List. If you know a teacher who would benefit from donations, nominate them to receive free materials here.
Another special reward is the creation of a personalized summer learning plan. If you have a child in preschool through 8th grade, Curiosity Pack founder Lily Jones will create a set of activities for your child based on their particular interests and needs. After a phone call or e-mail conversation to discuss your child, Lily will create a set of activities for your child to work on over the summer. This is a great way to engage your child in summer learning! Limited to 20 participants.
But there are even more rewards! You can also receive a super cute tote bag with the Curiosity Pack logo on it, stickers featuring four Curiosity Pack monsters, and more. Check out all the rewards options on the sidebar.
Stretch Goal: Get More Packs Going!
We've got tons of ideas for future Curiosity Packs! Next in the queue are Me, You, Us: a pack focused on building social-emotional skills and Amazing Numbers: a pack that engages kids in building early math skills.
If we reach a goal of $10,000 we will be able to start development of one of these packs. If we reach a goal of $13,000 we will be able to fund an entire round of production for one of these packs. More donations = more packs = more joyful learning. We so appreciate your help in launching this project!
Risks and challenges
The goal is for Curiosity Packs to be produced before summer vacation. This will make it easy to get the donated packs to classrooms in need before students go on summer break. If production takes longer than expected, we might face an obstacle getting the packs out before summer break. If this is the case, we will send the packs directly to kids when they are ready to go. No matter the obstacle, we will persevere to get packs to kids this summer!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
