Deluxe volume w/embossed cover & silver edged full color interior describing vampires active or embraced during times of turmoil.
The BookChildren of the Revolution tells the stories of noteworthy or notorious Kindred of the modern nights whose Embraces came intimes of unrest, rebellion, or open revolution. The circumstances of these revolutions might have been mortal or undead, martial or cultural. These Kindred joined the ranks of the Damned under tides of war or cultural upheaval, and their blood bears the mark of change from one paradigm into another. Sometimes they are the agents of change. For others, their revolution drags them in its wake.
The world of the Kindred is always fraught with blood and danger, and Embrace amid the fires of revolution only heightens that fact. Here are Kindred who have risen to guide the Black Hand, who have led the armies of Alexander, who have plumbed the mysteries of the Nictuku, and who have been reborn in the fires of the Arab Spring. Their histories have been forged, but their futures remain to be determined by your troupe.
The ProjectThis Children of the Revolution Kickstarter is designed to enable us to create a deluxe hardcover edition that matches the beautiful qualities of Vampire the Masquerade Twentieth Anniversary Edition and the V20 Companion: embossed black leatherette hardcover, with full color, silver-edged, interior pages and a red silk ribbon bookmark.
As with the successful KS for V20 Companion, we are posting this in order to give our backers the chance to have a say in the kind of package we'll deliver and to further foster the community of vampire fans around the world. Some of the characters in Children of the Revolution were submitted by players during the Open Development Process on the V20 Blogs, and, because of their backing during our last KS, some of our backers' likenesses will be appearing in the art for this book. We had a blast talking with the community during the V20 Companion KS and fully hope that every backer of this KS will enjoy commenting both here and on the WW V20 Blogs: http://whitewolfblogs.com/children/
We have a great community and want to hear from more of you, so please comment away!
We Learned From V20 CompanionThis is our second KS, and so there are some tweaks to our goals, reward tiers, and prizes. Because Children of the Revolution is specced to have 33% more page count than V20 Companion, that means that each individual book costs more to produce. Also, every vampire has their own section of the book and starts off with a stunning full page portrait. Which means we greatly upped the art budget for CotR; such a book simply requires that amount of great art. We also consolidated the rewards by adding a flat shipping amount for nonUS orders to see if that will work better than always having two tiers for one reward.
So How Does This Work?
It's pretty easy. Contribute any amount you want, bearing in mind the levels of contribution and their commensurate rewards over there on the right. If we hit our $50K goal, you'll get the reward that goes with your level of contribution. PDFs and Print on Demand versions will be made available first in the form of a coupon from our online sales partner, DriveThruRPG. Children of the Revolution will take several months from the closing date to print and ship. We will contact contributors in the upper tiers with details on their rewards.
If we have contributions beyond our target number, we've planned several added rewards for contributors:
At $55,000 of contributions, Matt McElroy of FlamesRising.com will write an update to the original Red List (the basis for The Kindreds Most Wanted) which brings it into V20 compatibility. Here's his description of the project:
The Red List is made up of the worst monsters and vilest criminals imaginable. Compiled by Justicars, Princes and other Camarilla luminaries, the Red List has the names of those deemed too corrupt even for the impure halls of the Ivory Tower. The Anathema are undead who have committed crimes potent enough to make them hunted by the entire Sect. Recently the List has been updated to include new names to replace those who were caught or killed in the last decade. Secret meetings between Justicars and the Camarilla's Inner Circle have resulted in a fresh look at who...and what...make up the Most Wanted among the Damned.
At $70,000 of contributions, we will hire artists to depict each of the Anathema with brand new, full color pieces.
We're estimating about three pages per Anathema, so about a 40 page book.
At $100,000 of contributions, Justin and I will create an annotated multi-media version PDF of Children of the Revolution filled with soundbites, video, and extra layers of text and sketches that detail the making of the book and the choices we made along the way.
Whatever the outcome, we're still using these Kickstarter projects to gauge the players' interest in future Vampire and World of Darkness titles. Using Kickstarter, we're able to produce books more quickly and deliver them directly to the players, skipping the distribution system entirely. Simply put, if this experiment continues to work, we'll make it a business model, and bring you more supplementary World of Darkness material faster, and incorporate your feedback at every step of the way.
We are aiming for 120 pages, but that amount needs to be understood as a target number and not a page count of a finished product at this stage of the project. It could fluctuate in either direction once text is edited and art is added.
You should be able to click on the reward tier you want (let’s say the $60 tier), and when you go to the Backer page it’ll ask you how much you’re pledging- manually put in the amount with the shipping costs added (in the example, this would be an extra $20 for a total of $80 that you manually enter).
