DOC UNKNOWN: THE WAR FOR GATE CITY is a 104 page graphic novel collecting the final four issues of supernatural pulp series DOC UNKNOWN. The third and final volume will be 94 pages of new story, featuring an introduction from ED BRISSON (SHELTERED, CLUSTER, MURDERBOOK) an afterword by me (Fabian Rangel Jr) and will include a pin-up gallery featuring MATT SMITH (BARBARIAN LORD), ALEXIS ZIRITT (SPACE RIDERS) LOGAN FAERBER (OH, KILLSTRIKE), DAVID RUBIN (THE RISE OF AURORA WEST), and MIKE MIGNOLA (HELLBOY)!
The money raised will be used to pay for the art production.
We are also offering a second printing of the BOSS SNAKE: Cold Blood, Cold Streets one-shot featuring a new cover by ABE SAPIAN artist MAX FIUMARA.
We self-published the first issue of DOC UNKNOWN in March of 2013, and released an issue every other month until the first 4 issue mini-series was complete. Wanting to give Kickstarter a try, and to keep Doc Unknown going, we launched the BOSS SNAKE: COLD BLOOD, COLD STREETS one-shot Kickstarter in September of that year. We funded in 13 hours, and as a stretch goal we put together Doc Unknown #5. Knowing that we had the reader support to keep Doc Unknown going, I wrote an outline for Doc Unknown that ended the series at #12. In March of 2014 we launched the Kickstarter for DOC UNKNOWN: WINTER OF THE DAMNED AND OTHER TALES (or Doc Unknown Volume Two) which collected Doc #5-#8, and were very humbled by the success of that campaign. And now, a year after the last Doc Unknown Kickstarter, and two years after the release of the very first issue, the time has come to complete the trilogy.
In DOC UNKNOWN: THE WAR FOR GATE CITY, everything that we have been building towards comes to a head, and we showcase over a dozen characters, new and old. We're really proud of this next volume, and can't wait to bring it to life.
Risks and challenges
This is the fourth Kickstarter I have run, and have learned a lot in the last two years of self-publishing this series. As soon as we have the money from Kickstarter, Ryan (the fastest and most reliable artist I've ever worked with) will get to work. After successfully meeting shipping goals on three previous Kickstarters, I am more than confident that we are a team that delivers, and that our backers can rest assured they will get their rewards when we say they will.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
