About this project
The daring design duo, RidBack, is at it again! Ladder 29 is a hot game of ladder climbing firefighters extinguishing their hands of cards.
Taking a cue from beloved family card games like Tichu, Clubs, and Haggis, Ladder 29 adds a new challenge to the familiar climbing/trick-taking genre. As experts in the time-honored business of firefighting, players attempt to extinguish their hand of cards while facing difficult challenges that hinder their abilities and choices. Players must decide when to play it safe and when to put it all on the line in this easy-to-learn game that is sure to turn up the heat around the gaming table!
Trick-taking/Climbing - Press Your Luck - Variable Player Abilities/Hindrances
Ladder 29 is played over several rounds in which players are dealt 13 cards each, pass 3 cards to the player on the left, and in reverse scoring order select a Hot Spot Card. The Hot Spot Card details the number of points awarded depending on the position the player goes out and a challenge that applies only to that player for the round. A player may choose to only lead singles, end runs in even numbers, or even limit the types of suites played in sets. The bigger the risk taken will provide a bigger reward as the first player to extinguish their hand by playing all thirteen cards wins the round and earns highest points possible on their Hot Spot Card. Play continues until all players, except the player who goes out last, earn points for their finishing position.
Ladder 29 is a game for 2 to 5 players, ages 13 and up and is designed by the seasoned duo of Ben Pinchback and Matt Riddle (Fleet, Eggs and Empires, Floating Market, Morocco, and the upcoming Wasteland Express Delivery Service with co-designer Jonathan Gilmour). Each game lasts 30 to 45 minutes.

You can add-on one of our previous games by adjusting the amount of your pledge! The prices below include shipping. You can add this amount to your pledged amount and we'll collect information about the games you added at the end of the campaign. We'll also ship the add-on games out before Ladder 29, right after we receive the funds (about two-three weeks after the Kickstarter closes).
Here's the prices including shipping (which are cheaper than buying them from our webstore):
Read more about all of our games right here on BoardGameGeek!
Ladder 29 is available world-wide and all copies will ship from within the US! International Shipping fees will be added to your pledge level when you select your home location.
Added Shipping: US-Included!, Canada-$7, Everywhere Else-$15
Note: International Backers will be responsible for any import fees, brokerage or delivery surcharges, or applicable taxes that may be levied after we have shipped your package. However, this campaign is CUSTOMS FRIENDLY. The low price point and small box for this game should not cause any customs fees for backers pledging for 1-2 copies. We have learned that shipping is a costly endeavor, especially with the recent rate increase in the US Postal Service, and we must try to keep our costs as low as possible to keep our games at an appropriate price point for when they hit retail.
We are saying THANK YOU to our early adopters on Kickstarter by offering the game below MSRP while covering the first $5 of shipping costs for all backers. We'll also be adding some extra content at no extra charge (when we reach STRETCH GOALS, of course).
We have plans to add value (STRETCH GOALS!) to Ladder 29 that we think you will really appreciate. We plan to add value by upgrading components and increasing replayability with added game content.
We have several stretch goals in mind and we hope to hit them all! But know that just as with our previous campaigns, we won't likely be adding more just to add more. We believe that more isn't always better, especially if it holds up production and delays delivery.
That being said, we'll be listening closely to your feedback and ideas and will carefully consider all the ideas that comes our way.
Here's a look at what's to come with YOUR help:

We think this game is GREAT but don't just take our word for it! Check out this previews and other helpful links! (Please note that all pictures use prototype components and don't always reflect the final product.)
Note: The reviews were made using mostly final protoype art but some changes are still in the works. Also, the Color/Suit Rank order cards in the reviews are incorrect due to an oversight but it doesn't effect gameplay and will be changed for final production.
"I think it fills a perfect and much-needed spot in the light- to medium-weight category. I can't even imagine introducing the family to Tichu at this point, but Ladder 29 is PERFECT. My kids liked it. My wife liked it. And it doesn't overstay its welcome--like Tichu can on occasion." _Scott Firestone IV from Theology of Games

Ryan Sanders of the Indie Game Report says, "It is clear this is a gem of a card game. With a very classic and traditional feel, yet fresh with its twists of the hot spot cards, passing 3 cards at start of round, and having the option to play even after everyone else has passed. If you walk away with one statement from this preview in mind, it should be this: Ladder 29 is a game that every gamer should have in their collection."

Risks and challenges
My experience with our previous campaigns, Fidelitas, Best Treehouse Ever, JurassAttack!, Avalanche at Yeti Mountain, Wok on Fire, Rocky Road a la Mode, and OutLawed! has provided a solid foundation for me to build on. And so far I have been able to avoid delays and common pitfalls by paying special attention to the following areas and building on previous experience:
Art and Design. The art and design for the game is nearly complete so we'll be ready to print shortly after the close of the campaign. I always like to show you I mean business by paying for the art and design upfront!
Playtesting and Reviewing. Ladder 29 has been tested by many different playtesters and even a bunch of game designers. I have sent a bunch of prototypes to a variety of reviewers. I want to earn your trust by providing you with a solid product that has been thoroughly tested and reviewed by folks from varying backgrounds and perspectives.
Past Experience. This is the ninth Kickstarter project I've run for Green Couch Games and I have helped with several other successful campaigns. Also, having spent many years working in retail and customer service, I understand the importance of treating backers with respect and following through with projects.
Of course, there are always unexpected circumstances that pop up, but I PROMISE to communicate every step of the way and do my best to use creative problem solving meet the challenges head on.
Thank you so much for giving Green Couch Games a chance. As a small company, I truly can't do this without you. I will do my best to thank you by creating great little games that you love to play.
