Thank you all for your support everyone! Thus far, this book project has been featured in the following media:
Hello! My name is Julia Cieslukowska, and I wrote a book called “Sara Stem Saves the Bees” for children aged 2-6. Sara Stem is a heroic young girl who uses her intelligence and the tools around her to rescue her friends and solve a serious ecological problem. Now that the book is officially published, I am sharing the book with children everywhere I can! Check out this collage of a local book reading we did!
Through Kickstarter, I would like to distribute free copies to as many low-income children as I can in time for Christmas!
Talented French illustrator and colourist duo Nicolas Garguilo and Aurélie Dubois (with http://www.spiral-multimedia.fr) have done an incredible job bringing Sara Stem to life in 30 pages of illustrations. The cover art was selected by the public through a voting process on the Sara Stem Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/sarastemsavesthebees
I chose to write this book in response to what I saw as a lack of positive female protagonists in children’s books. Sara Stem as a character is defined clearly throughout the story by her intellect, resourcefulness and heroism.
Of course, all backers will be rewarded with various prizes. If you do have young children, we encourage you to pledge at least $50 to get your own copy of the book to share with your family! Simultaneously, a second copy of Sara Stem will be given to a low-income child as a result of your contribution. If you are not interested in getting a copy of the book for yourself, but want to pledge sufficient funds to cover at least 1 book for a child in need, we recommend a $35 pledge.
Thank you all so much for your support. Any donation, big or small, is one step closer to getting free books to low-income children for Christmas!
