Angela Tait and Ian Clegg. A five year collaboration between a photographer and a ceramicist. www.aticstudios.com
The ceramic book is a story or an image that can be read like a regular book, left in the wooden display case or the pages can be removed and displayed as a wall piece.
We select an image taken by our astonishing 'ceramic Polaroid pinhole camera' and divide up the image before firing onto ceramic tiles. Each tile becomes a page in the book and a one off print in its own right. We manipulate the glazes and add text, print and other subtle details to each tile which makes every single piece completely unique.
For this project we wish to make an edition of five books (plus an artists' proof) from the same print. Each book will have twenty pages which can be displayed together as a full image measuring 475 x 380 mm. The books will be available for investors but the artists' proof and unsold copies will be submitted to exhibitions of artists books and ceramics works throughout the world.
Our budget for the project is £250. This is purely for materials. £50 for ceramic unglazed tiles and £200 for specialist ceramic transfers. All other materials, a massive amount of kiln time and a considerable amount of making and research time are our contributions to the project.
The book will be produced during November 2014. We have allowed sufficient time in our plan to deliver any and all rewards in time for Christmas.
Please help us to realise this project, it's so exciting and unique!
Risks and challenges
We are confident that our process works. We have been developing this idea and our own aesthetic for years.
Potential problems or challenges we may face would be practical...a kiln breaking, difficulty in getting the boxes supplied etc. As we have 50 years business and management experience between us we are accustomed to meeting these kinds of challenge. We pride ourselves on our professionalism which includes our ability to communicate with our stakeholders at every stage of the project.
If something goes awry we will find a way to fix it and approach you with solutions before you know there's a problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
