About this project
Main goal through Kickstarter
Since SNAPPINGNY is a beautiful and large reunion of pictures, the main goal through KS is to raise the funds to lay out a gorgeous limited edition book with the finest material edited (12"X9"). Not only aesthetically pleasing but also significant as street photography. SNAPPINGNY is an existing collection and no new photographs will be taken. This collection wants to preserve its originality and constant improvement, it also stamps many facts occurred in the city that I have witnessed with many people. Funds will help also the preparation for exhibiting the material. Literally EVERY dollar counts!
THE CURIOUS T4
Whenever someone sees photos from this collection I hear, “ - But which camera did you use?”. I perceive an opportunity to initiate a conversation and usually I respond, “.. a Leica or Contax”. As these are well known and respected brands in the photography industry, the observer usually then replies: “Wow, I can see that...” or something like, “I knew it could only be that kind of camera!”. It’s a fun moment for me because I then reveal which camera I took 100% of these photos with. The reactions are intriguing, “WOW! With THAT? How come?! That’s impossible!!!!!”. And from there on I tell the tale of my humble T4.
T4 was first introduced by Yashica in the end of the nineties. It is basically made of plastic in its entirety and cost me a little more than 100 dollars. Totally automatic! Built for snapshots. The 35mm fixed lens on it is a Tessar/Carl Zeiss. Some are familiar with it, and since it’s fully automatic and detects ISO automatically it might be a little tricky to control certain characteristics. Sometimes what “it” wants to do is predominant. So I’ve learned a few tricks here and there, and the result is a lot of inspiration in SNAPPINGNY.
The ironic revelation that such a simple camera was used is for me a great reason to celebrate photography, it makes me feel like it awakens the photographer in all of us. Stimulating this experience is important, a unique instrument of my relation with time. An act of observing. I feel that it’s a very instinctive process for me, the photographer “makes” the picture. Hopefully you get inspired as well.
How to support SNAPPINGNY through KICKSTARTER
Let me remind you that KS is an all-or-nothing model. Meaning, if the pledges donʼt total up to the proposed fundraising goal, the project does not get funded. No cards are charged. No money exchanged. SNAPPINGNY will not change from “project" status to “product” status.
I hope that my pictures inspire you to back the project so I can print the book and prepare the exhibition. This is a project of love for photography, something I can give back to all of you.

Risks and challenges
Risks & Challenges
SNAPPINGNY does not face many risks. Nonetheless, risks are always present in a project with so many complexities and the images require optimal production standards to show all the details/ nuances. If SNAPPINGNY is funded production will start immediately as soon as the funds are released. This will most likely be in December and since that is a holiday season, delays can occur with suppliers and services might be interrupted. In general, macroenvironmental factors that are beyond my control can affect the workflow of the project but I can assure you I will be working full force on this to deliver to you a truly amazing book. SNAPPINGNY is an independent venture and my first book as a photographer, so be ready!!!! I want to surprise all my backers with the best.
I do not have a publisher yet but this KS campaign will certainly help me take the next step to get SNAPPINGNY published and distributed in a wider network.
The exhibition is also a challenge. SNAPPINGNY does not have a venue yet. The KS campaign is also to help conceptualize the exhibition and find a partner to show the work in New York. There is no guarantee that SNAPPING will be exhibited in a gallery as that will depend greatly on the success of the KS campaign. I will pursue all possibilities in New York and will look at all the different cities SNAPPINGNY can travel to.
The project was designed for the delivery of a high quality book and to fund the preparation for an exhibition. The exhibition is a way of putting people face-to-face with large prints. There will not be as many photographs as there are in the book.
The phases will be:
- Film Scanning in HIGH for the book (about 150 images)
- Editing and preparation of material/retouch and print as a preview to the publisher.
- Rewards shipping.
- Film Scanning in HIGH for exhibition purposes. (about 40 plates)
- Dealing with possible publisher. Following process.
- Concluding the book design with final editing.
- Send to offset printing station. Proofing. Printing.
- Rewards shipping.
- Hopefully get a venue for the opening and official launch of the book in NY!
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
