In a world where sitting is the new smoking and poor motor patterns are abundant, Gumdrop is here to help make you feel and perform your best. The unique, patent-pending tetrahedral shape provides four apexes of varying sizes and acuteness. Muscle knots come in all shapes and sizes, and Gumdrop can reach them all. Made of polyurethane, Gumdrop is firm yet pliable, providing maximum comfort and effectiveness. The beauty of the shape and size is that you are able to self-direct the right amount of pressure to the exact problem area. Gumdrop’s flat surfaces enable a user to employ surroundings--walls, floors, chairs--to assist with alleviating pain in previously inaccessible spots.
These days knots are everywhere, often caused by poor motor patterns and stress, they can pop up in some hard-to-target places. Therefore you need a massage tool that is ready for the toughest challenges.
The smallest radius is perfect for manually targeting knots around the upper shoulder or small joints.
Gumdrop's unique shape allows you to use the surfaces around you. The wall, the back of your chair, or the floor are all viable options for helping you massage out those hard-to-reach knots.
The medium-sized radii are great for smaller muscles like forearms and calves.
The largest radius is ideal for larger muscles. Like your glutes!
The flat sides allow for the stability you need to get rid of those pesky knots in difficult to massage places like your arches.
Take it wherever you go, Gumdrop has your back even at 5.000+ feet!
Gumdrop fits in the palm of your hand and can easily be carried in any bag, purse, or luggage -- or even in your large coat pockets!
Most massage products can look awkward or downright scary but with four great colors to choose from Gumdrop is something you'll want to show off!
Who are we?
Two friends who met at school where Arjun studied economics and political science and Phoebe studied mechanical engineering and design innovation. Arjun developed an interest in business and finance while Phoebe was fascinated by human-centered design. Arjun spent his extracurricular time kicking butt at debate and Phoebe spent most of her waking hours--when not studying--playing ultimate frisbee. Opposite interests but great friends.
The inspiration for Gumdrop began when Phoebe experienced an injury. Poor posture while slaving over her laptop writing final papers caused a large knot to develop in her back which made everyday motion uncomfortable and throwing a frisbee excruciating.
A wonderful athletic trainer quickly diagnosed the problem and gave Phoebe exercises involving massaging the area around the trigger point, a fancy term for a knot, with a lacrosse ball. In a day the pain was down to a manageable level, and within a few days, gone altogether. To Phoebe this seemed like magic but raised the question: “Why am I using something that was designed for a totally different purpose to make my body feel better?”and then the follow-up question: “Can I design something specifically for this purpose that would work even better?”
Phoebe spent her last year of school researching sports injuries related to dysfunctional myofascia, an even fancier term for knot, and how to release them effectively. Based on her research, she began designing and 3D printing prototypes for self-myofascial release and testing them on her teammates and anyone else willing to be a guinea pig (a.k.a. Arjun who was already in the financial consulting workforce). After dozens of iterations, the Gumdrop form was born to provide a simple, portable, versatile solution to knots in hard-to-reach places, like the back--and pretty much everywhere else!
Now that the design is perfected, we are merging our complementary skill-sets to launch Gumdrop and share this colorful tetrahedron with the world!
Risks and challenges
The reality is, any design and manufacturing project comes with potential challenges. This is our first Kickstarter campaign so we expect to run into hurdles but we have strong advisers--who have successfully launched and delivered multiple projects--to help us mitigate risk as problems arise.
TIMING: The biggest risk factor for you as a backer is delivery timing. We are already in the final stages of work with our manufacturer, but if we are significantly over-funded not every backer may be able to receive a package in the original expected time-frame. We'll do our very best, though, and we've got all the pieces in place for a fantastic campaign.
QUALITY CONTROL: There is the potential for variance in product quality as we scale up manufacturing. By working with manufacturers who our team has an existing relationship with and being on the ground to inspect the process, we are putting every effort into ensuring the high standard of product we require.
FULFILLMENT: We plan to work with a third-party fulfillment company to get you your product as smoothly as possible. However, delays and unforeseen circumstances can be a part of any delivery process. Given we are just scaling up, there may be risks with larger scale and even international delivery but we promise to be upfront about any delays that we encounter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
