About this project
Our reason for this project:
We’ve designed machine that combines multi- fabrication methods: 5axis milling being one of them. 5AXISMAKER is a machine versatile enough to fabricate most advanced design prototypes in readily available material while on your desktop right next to you.
Stretch Goal £70K: every backer who gets 5AXISMAKER will receive from us a one-to-one tutorial on how to realise your very own project on 5AXISMAKER.
Being an alumni of Architectural Association we’ve had an access to most advanced fabrication tools in the world. Yet there is no desktop prototyping machine that has versatility to replicate this technology.
Our company has been initially found as design and fabrication practise, and after years of working with wide range of designers from different fields it has become clear that one should have an instant access to a pallet of prototyping tools. We wanted same machine to include a set of tools like CNC mill, touch-probe, 3d printer, wire-cutter and have a potential for further add-ons.
That is why we have developed 5AXISMAKER.
Most advanced fabrication comes to your desk!
We felt limited by typical desktop machines which either use only plastic or severely limited by geometry they can produce or are too small to make useful prototypes.
We created 5 axis platform that gives you an unprecedented versatility compared to 3axis platforms of readily available 3d printers and desktop cnc mills. It lets the tool work on details of the model that other machines could not reach. 5AXISMAKER comfortably sits on your desk and has a large fabrication volume for its size.
5AXISMAKER is a multi fabricator, simply swap the tool head and it becomes a different type of machine. There is 5axis milling tool that brings you the power of the most common digital manufacturing process in the world. You could attach a 3d printing head and start printing objects in minutes, or use a touch probe to scan physical objects in to 3d models. These are all real world fabrication techniques so you can prototype fabrication process yourself, you can be in control of process affecting your design. There is a potential for practically all digital fabrication techniques to be combined in one platform and we need your help to complete development of this amazing tool!
Typically 5 axis machines are extremely large and expensive and software makers don’t see why they should produce an affordable software and this is one of the reasons this technology hasn’t reached the maker community yet. This machine has a potential to break this paradigm and revolutionise the field of desktop prototyping machines.
There are open source options for 5axis software that are being developed at the moment so it is now possible to have an affordable 5 axis system.
We have created our own open source Grasshopper script that allows programming of 5axis machine. We will continue its development and hope that maker community will join us in this challenge.
However if we reach our stretch goal of £300,000 we would be able to develop a stand alone easy to use, fully featured software package, which we will share with every backer of this project.

Risks and challenges
One of the challenges for us is to convey that the cost of this machine comes from it being a more intricate design. We use materials and parts of superior quality to make sure that this machine will last. We hope that people understand once they invest money in this machine there is no hidden material costs from us for selling any material that it works with as it practically works with any of the shelf material.
We’ve been testing 5AXISMAKER for sometime now. We are confident that mechanical and electrical designs are solid.
There is a risk in meeting deadline which can be solved by hiring more people to our team.
