What are we up to?
We want to create an artistic stir in our town of Findlay, Ohio. Our POP up cooperative gallery exhibit will transform an empty downtown building into a two month long interactive art experience. We have a real a passion to see the arts thrive here, as this section of Main Street is still recovering from the devastating flood of 2007. Our plan is to present new art to the eyes of the community, and involve people of all ages in collaborative art experiences with professional artists.
We know that with your support, FiYA Studios POP up gallery will be a success! In addition to being situated at the second busiest intersection in town, our location also offers convenient, off-street parking~ a hard to find commodity in Findlay. Plus, we already have an art presence in this block, as we've been teaching painting classes in the building next door for nearly a year. We have a lovely following of folks who regularly attend classes; some even come from over an hour away to paint with us!
What kinds of interactive experiences do we have planned?
We'll be working with our visitors on a variety of collaborative projects, where people of all ages will be able to add their own ideas to a work of art begun by one of our professional artists. Check out this story! We'll be working with glass, collage, drawing, painting, sculpture, and jewelry. The final works will be framed and presented for auction, with proceeds benefiting art programs for youth.
We're also gathering people of all skill levels to participate in our "30 Artworks in 30 Days Challenge", which will be held during the month of January. This will be an online program that allows artists and non-artists to upload their works in a virtual gallery. These pieces can range from simple sketches or collages, to more complex paintings, sculpture, and jewelry. We'll begin the challenge on January 2, to coincide with the annual world-wide "30 in 30" painting challenge, hosted by painter Leslie Saeta.
We will have weekly demonstrations and hands on activities given by the artist members of our shop. Our plan is to offer a range of activities that will interest all age groups.
HOW are we going to tackle this, you might ask?
Well, to start with, we already have a pile of fantastic regional artists from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana on board, and they're ready to share their art and vision with our community. Our space will be filled with paintings, glass, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, and drawings for sale, just in time for holiday shopping. On November 1st we will launch our exhibit to coincide with the annual Downtown ArtWalk , which is Findlay's biggest art event of the year.
What happens when our project ends at the end of December?
With your help, this project will serve as a "trial run" for the future. We'll evaluate our POP up gallery project in early February, and use our findings as an indicator to determine our potential continue to offer artwork and experiences like these on a more permanent basis.
Why we need your help...
Kristen and I have wanted to do this project for several years. However, as artists and mothers, (Each of us have four children!) we aren't financially able to make this happen by ourselves. While we're extremely rich in our passion for the arts, we need dollars to make this happen. Kristen and I thrive on sharing our expertise and love of art with people in our local community and beyond. With your help, we'll dive in head first to make this project a huge success.

In summary, here are our four goals:
1. To raise enough money to make our project a reality. While our committed professional artists have agreed to chip in a little for their space, we still need your help to meet our expenses. $2000 the absolute bare minimum we need to raise to cover our rent and utilities. We'll still need to pay for insurance, sales tax license, marketing materials, used display fixtures /hanging materials, frames, and art supplies to produce our collaborative art projects, plus, materials to build our window displays, and refreshments for our openings.
2. To provide regional professional and emerging artists the opportunity to present and sell their artwork to our community.
3. To actively involve people of all ages in our community by providing interactive art experiences with professional artists.
4. To be a positive presence in a neighborhood that is struggling to recover from flood damage.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge we currently face is meeting the deadline to fund our project in only 2 weeks, but we'll have some definite challenges ahead once we're funded. For instance, it is going to prove difficult to get people to come into our POP up gallery because this part of Main Street was so heavily damaged in the 2007 flood. Many of these buildings have been torn down or have remained vacant since then, and although we're at a major intersection, it is a location that could easily be forgotten. To face this challenge, we've developed some great strategies to get people to come in, remember us, AND come back. We'll host rotating, hands-on art demos, offer giveaways, and knock out intriguing window displays that are sure to stop traffic.
Another risk we face is the possibility that our committed artists may not see the sales they hope for over the course of two months. We are opening our Pop up exhibit at the height of the holiday shopping season in attempt to counter this risk. We have the trust of these artists, many of whom are our friends, and we'll do everything in our power to bring them sales and exposure in this new venue.
