MASON JAR JOE WILL BE STAINLESS STEEL
With your help funding Mason Jar Joe Cold Brewed Coffee Maker, it will be made out of stainless steel. Not plastic.
"AMERICANS ENTER THE ICE AGE-iced coffee goes beyond summer-only appeal."
"While overall, one in five (20%) US consumers drink iced coffee, this figure jumps to 38% of those aged 18-24 – compared to just 11% of those aged 55-64 and 5% of those aged over 65. The findings also reveal that 77% of iced coffee drinkers perceive that drinking it makes them feel more productive at work. According to Mintel, data shows that 18-24 year-olds, in stark contrast to older drinkers, are far bigger consumers of iced coffee and they will almost certainly take this habit into their middle age."
WHAT IS COLD BREWED COFFEE?
Cold brewed coffee has been around for a long time (one of the first patented cold brew coffee makers was in the 60's). Over the past couple of years, coffee lovers have been discovering it and creating a demand for it. There is no denying that it has become a status symbol for those who are in the cold brewed coffee "know" as well as trickling over into the mainstream.
If you've never tried cold brewed coffee, it can be superior to its hot brewed counterpart in terms of:
Taste - cold brewed coffee is often described as "sweeter" and "more mellow" than hot brewed coffee. It often will have a hint of chocolate.
Low acidity - the absence of heat allows you to brew without releasing the acid, still keeping all the flavor, making it possible for those who forego their cuppa Joe to appease an upset stomach.
Freshness and shelf life - brewing with heat releases the oils in the coffee. These oils quickly oxidize and break down into an acrid, bitter brew. Mason Jar Joe's coffee holds the peak flavor for days instead of minutes, making a more economical, less-wasteful beverage.
Until now, cold brewed coffee systems were complicated, expensive, cumbersome, and messy. Some of the common shortcomings include:
- filters that need replacing
- pulling a cork out of the bottom of the container holding the coffee
- expensive (can cost $50 to several hundred dollars)
- open to air and contaminants
- unstable and prone to falling
- too big to fit on a countertop or in a refrigerator
- time required to strain with cheesecloth or paper filters
- no storage
- doesn't make enough cold brewed coffee
The intoxicating elixir was largely only available in coffeehouses or for order online in bottles. Now, anyone can easily afford the luxurious taste, epicurean versatility, and convenience of cold brewed coffee with Mason Jar Joe.
Make it the way you like it. Since you use your own mason jars (why buy their containers), you can prepare just one or as many as you want and filter as needed.
Your mason jars, coupled with Mason Jar Joe's breakthrough filter system finally allows the home-user the means to easily and economically produce cold brewed coffee extract for use in blended, hot, or iced coffee drinks, a gourmet addition to recipes, or for that quick morning cuppa java - hot or cold.
WHAT IS MASON JAR JOE?
Mason Jar Joe consists of two pieces that replace the lids of your mason jars to filter your cold brewed coffee. It is small enough to fit in your silverware draw instead of taking up valuable counter space like other methods.
HOW MASON JAR JOE WAS INVENTED.
I love coffee. I love the smell. I love the taste. I love all the different types.
Cold brewed coffee is just starting to make its way into the mainstream of coffee drinkers and I want to help others discover how easy, affordable, and delicious it can be.
Mason Jar Joe was invented out of necessity.
I live in Florida where it is hot most of the year. Drinking hot brewed coffee when it is 90 degrees outside isn't a pleasant option. Putting hot brewed coffee in the fridge for later is not cold brewed coffee. Making hot brewed coffee twice as strong and diluting it over ice is not cold brewed coffee.
So I made cold brewed coffee in cups scattered around our counters and it made a horrible mess. My wife told me find a different way to make cold brewed coffee because what I was doing wasn't working for her.
I couldn't find a product that was simple, efficient, effective, and affordable. So I invented one. Say hello to Mason Jar Joe.
The working prototype in the video is made of safe, ABS plastic but Mason Jar Joe will be mass produced using stainless steel in final production. Our manufacturer is using CAD drawings to create a finished material prototype and manufacturing plan.
SO QUICK! SO EASY!
Mason Jar Joe embodies the innovative pioneer spirit that makes America great by repurposing what some would consider a cast-off into a unique, environmentally-friendly cold brewed coffee maker.
Mason Jar Joe is a product that deserves to be in every household - just like a vegetable peeler, wire whisk, or spatula. Without relying on electricity, Mason Jar Joe is the uber eco-friendly kitchen appliance. It is an affordable kitchen tool for the masses that will introduce the Average Joe to the most incredible cuppa Joe - in an environmentally, economical way.
W.I.P.P. (WILL IT PLAY IN PEORIA?)
SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Mason Jar Joe is a novel, "why didn't I think of that" idea that allows anyone to use a familiar fixture in most kitchens to make delicious cold brewed coffee. Okay it's a great idea, but how does it become a product? Where does it stand right now and how we are going to get it finished!
Physical facilities for receiving, warehousing, & shipping Mason Jar Joe are available and can be ready by the time Mason Jar Joe goes into production.
WHAT'S THE PAYOFF?
If being a hip and happening cold brewed coffee trendsetter that can brag to all of your friends, family, coworkers or even total strangers that you were an integral part in making Mason Jar Joe happen isn't enough, then also enjoy a very small token of Mason Jar Joe's appreciation.

Risks and challenges
Food Network, Bon Appetit, CNN, Huffington Post, Daily News and countless blogs are only a few who have featured cold brewed coffee in the past year.
It will be imperative not to miss the window of opportunity to capitalize on the third wave of coffee's cold brewed coffee much like the success craft beer has seen in recent years.
Mold or die making is a large, upfront capital expenditure. In the US, a mold rated at 50,000 throws to make a simple component can cost between $10,000-$15,000. You can get it for a fraction of the cost overseas (mainly China) but freight charges, duration, and margin of error are greater.
Getting the word out.
Please share Mason Jar Joe with your family & friends that love coffee, mason jars, or both. Maybe they'd like to invest too.
Additional challenges are the same challenges that any new product would face. My educational and professional background along with my current interactions with the manufacturer, make me confident that enough capital, the right business model, and overall vision, will let us identify and overcome all risks and challenges in order to have a successful product and business.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
