About

The only thing worse than stepping on a Lego barefoot is getting to the middle of a build and finding out there are pieces missing. The BoxTop Builder gives you storage and sorting space for parts, minifigures, accessories, and the instruction book. Everything stays in one place so you get to the end of the build without losing any pieces.

The Product

#CompleteTheBuild

Whether you worked on it for hours, days or weeks, it's a great feeling add the last piece, take and post some pictures and play with your creation. Lego sets aren't cheap and BoxTop Builder protects that investment. #CompleteTheBuild

From a basement in NJ
Whether it was hacking together a proof of concept, video calls with the industrial designer in the UK, or painting 3D-printed parts, it all happened in my basement. It’s the only place in my house where I can leave something and not have it moved or played with prematurely.

The Team

Hello, I’m Mike Piccuirro. I’m from New Jersey, where I live with my wife and two kids in New Jersey. I work at a Digital Agency in NYC as a Technical Director. I like building Legos sets with my kids, especially since it’s a nice way to do something with them that doesn’t involve them staring at a tablet. Those sets are expensive. But when we’re working on a set and we reach the end of the instruction book, there’s a nice feeling of satisfaction when we put the last piece in place. We take a picture, then the kids play with it until it winds up back in pieces in a large storage container. The kids use that container to make MOCs, which they love too. But Lego sets are so perfectly designed that even one small missing piece can ruin that satisfaction of finishing it. I designed something to help keep everything organized until that last piece is placed. I’ve found that the process of getting it made is kinda like building a Lego set: I had to make sure that all the pieces were in place so I’d have the satisfaction of knowing it was perfect when it was done.

Risks and challenges
The BoxTop Builder will be made by injection molding, which is a very common way of manufacturing. There are risks common to any injection-molded product (defective molds, improper fit and finish), but with careful sourcing and the collaboration of a product design agency, we expect to minimize the possibility of issues.
