As children, we all read the classic fairytales, believed in magic, and dreamt of one day becoming royalty. However, as we grow up and reality sets in, we begin to doubt our chances at achieving happily ever after.
We want to rekindle the optimism of childhood and help all those who are suffering to believe in magic again. We strive to be a symbol of hope for those who feel lost in their own journey, demonstrating that happiness is still on the horizon and empowering them to continue moving forward.
We are rewriting the classic stories with more realistic obstacles and characters that are more human and relatable. We hope to blur the boundaries between the fairytale and the reality to demonstrate that we are all worthy of a crown and deserve a happy ending.
With this project, we hope to:
- raise awareness for the various causes we represent
- bring more positivity into our world where we are bombarded with scary and depressing stories
- provide positive role models for young people
- break down stigma attached to the various challenges we face
- encourage others to speak up about their experiences
- help people to embrace their unique story, obstacles and all
- build a sense of community for all survivors and those who are still struggling
- help others to see the beauty in their imperfections
- discourage others from taking their own lives by giving them renewed hope for the future
The documentary features behind-the-scenes footage as each of the survivors portrays a classic fairytale character for a series of photos that depict their own journey through the struggle to success. The photos are an artistic representation of the hardship they have endured and their triumph over some of life's biggest obstacles. The scenes are emotional yet whimsical, tying in iconic elements of the classic fairytales as symbolic representations of the darker aspects of each story. The images are gripping without being graphic, in order to broaden our audience to all ages.
Along with the behind-the-scenes footage of the photoshoots, the documentary will feature interviews and commentary from the characters and crew, telling their stories as well as reflecting on the experience itself. The film will feature scenes from the photo release party where each person will see their final images for the first time and discuss their reactions with one another. We also plan to show the team participating in charity walks and other events, interacting with the community to raise awareness and spread our message of hope.
If we surpass our goal, we plan to include outtakes and more candid footage to show the raw reality of the making of the film and the beauty of our imperfections.
Meet The Team
We'd like to introduce you to the stars of the documentary. We are not a cast - we are REAL people telling our life stories, not actors following a script. Instead, we are a TEAM of survivors who are working together to create the Finding Your Fairytale documentary to spread the message that everyone deserves a fairy tale and its never too late for happily ever after.
Angie, the creator of the project, portrays Sleeping Beauty, representing those who suffer from sleep disorders and chronic fatigue and demonstrating that despite excessive sleepiness, you can still pursue your dreams! Being diagnosed with Narcolepsy definitely makes things more challenging, but she refuses to allow it to stop her from achieving her goals and living her life.
Brittany portrays Rapunzel, putting an ironic spin on the classic character known for her luscious locks. After being diagnosed with Alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss, Brittany embraced her new look and demonstrates that bald is beautiful! She refuses to be defined by her lack of hair and proves that you don't need hair to be a princess!
Alice in Wonderland is portrayed by Erica, who fell down the rabbit hole of addiction and found herself trapped in a dark and dangerous place. 8 years ago, she awoke from the nightmare and left the chaos of Wonderland behind in pursuit of her happily ever after.
The Evil Queen's story is much deeper than it appears, as her obsession with the mirror mirror on the wall is actually the result of an eating disorder. However, her story has a happier ending in our tale, as Mary has embraced the apple she once considered poison and has turned her back on the mirror that had deceived her for so long.
Our beauty, Patti Anne, suffered at the hands of a beast. Representing sexual assault survivors, she demonstrates that a rose that has been hurt is still just as beautiful!
The little mermaid, Kellie, never seemed to fit in and dreamed of being part of their world. Instead of sacrificing her voice to become one of them, she instead realized that she could stand on her own two feet and embraced her unique beauty.
Little Red Riding Hood was deceived by the Big Bad Wolf, an abusive man disguised as a loving husband. Misti represents survivors of domestic violence and demonstrates that a strong woman can triumph over the big bad wolf and reclaim control of her castle.
Our Snow Queen struggled to see the positives in her powers, resulting in a life of isolation and darkness. Wendy has since rekindled the light inside her and broken free from the binding chains of depression.
Our Prince Charming, Blake, represents the LGBT community, challenging the expectation that a prince must have a princess to find his happily ever after.
Our Cinderella was once consumed by fear of contamination that lead to excessive cleaning and constant worry. No longer a slave to her Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Julie traded in the mop and rags for the gown, crown, and glass slipper she knew she deserved.
Life gave this princess a "frog" of her own in the form of a birthmark, and it was only once Cindy embraced her reflection and kissed the frog that she began wearing her tiara with pride and found her happily ever after.
Margaret represents the armed forces and those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Defending her people and her land during times of conflict left our Pocahontas fearing change and feeling lost, but she has since embraced her surroundings and regained a sense of belonging.
Just as Snow White cared for the seven dwarfs, Tammy represents caregivers for those with different abilities, demonstrating that even through the scary uncharted journey, we must seek resilience, relentlessly advocate, and embrace with hope whatever lies ahead.
From the Photographer
Hi, I'm Chris Moehr, Photographer for the Finding Your Fairytale Project.
When Angie approached me with this idea, I could see and feel her passion for it. As someone with what I consider a minor disability (I've been an insulin dependent diabetic since I was six years old), I know how life's obstacles can loom large in a person's goals. What I loved about this concept was how we decided to show the winning side of these struggles, and not just showing their exsistence. Everyone involved has a real, personal story, so it's the emotion and experience driving the art.
In my house, I have a sign on the wall by the front door that says "It's never too late to find your happily ever after". It's the kind of optimisim that I only started believing a few short years ago. I've reinvented myself and my goals, stopped putting so much concern in what others see and judge in my choices, and found the peace to reflect on some of my own choices. My happily ever after started with this freeing idea of owning my choices, needs, and happiness.
Art can be a healing power and a tool for spreading ideas. I hope this project can do both.
From the Videographer/ Editor
My name is Damien Blue and I am happy to announce my role as videographer and editor of the Finding Your Fairytale short documentary. I grew up with a love for photography and my love eventually graduated into filmmaking in 2011. For the past four years, I have been immersing myself in as much of the filmmaking world as possible, shooting a variety of subject matter. I have a strong hand at music video directing and have recently won the 88.9 Radio Milwaukee ‘2015 Music Video of the Year’ award. Documentary filmmaking has always attracted and inspired my creative eye and I plan to utilize all the filmmaking abilities that I acquired through extensive short film and music video production and look forward to creating a documentary about the Finding Your Fairytale project that is both touching and cinematic. My goal is for this documentary to be viewed and regarded not only as a learning experience, but also as inspiration for any and all who are fighting and conquering life’s personal battles.
Thank you. -Damien Blue
This is where YOU come in!
We are not doing this project to get rich or famous, we want to make a difference in the world. In order to achieve our goal and reach the largest audience possible, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have already completed a significant portion of the project, but producing an independent documentary is EXPENSIVE! Our $12,500 All-or-nothing goal will go towards the following expenses:
- location rental fees
- production costs
We are a small, yet efficient crew and have cut costs drastically by doing a lot of the grunt work ourselves! When we weren't in the limelight, we were behind the curtains acting as gaffers, setting up props, holding backdrops, touching up makeup... You name it, we did it! We want this project to be REAL, so we didn't hire anyone who didn't see our vision and simply eliminated the need for any outside crew members by taking on multiple roles ourselves. $12,500 is all we need for this dream to become a reality that we can then share with the rest of the world!
What's in it for YOU?
First and foremost, every single person who contributes to this project in some way can take credit for helping to make our community a most positive place! Your help in any way is greatly appreciated, not only by those of us in the project, but by those who will be inspired by the project! Aside from the satisfaction of knowing you've done something great, you will also receive some AMAZING rewards, because who doesn't love cool stuff?
As a thank you for helping us achieve this goal, we offer some amazing rewards, including:
YOUR NAME IN THE CREDITS
Every single person who contributed to this project will be acknowledged in the final credits of the documentary as a thank you for making this dream come true! (delivery date TBA due to uncertainty about release date)
THANK YOU POSTCARD
Those who contributed at least $15 will receive a handwritten postcard from one of the characters as a thank you! For those who choose the Buy One Get One Reward, your second postcard will be blank so that you can write a personal message to the person you are gifting the second set to!

- Yourself, because sometimes we all need a reminder that we ARE royalty!
FINDING YOUR FAIRYTALE: THE DOCUMENTARY
The documentary will follow each of the characters through their journey from struggle to success, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the photoshoots along with commentary from the creators and characters. It is estimated to be between 15-20 minutes at length, but this will not be determined until all filming has wrapped and editing is underway. If we surpass our goal, we plan to include outtakes and more candid footage to show the raw reality behind the making of the documentary.
The goal is to have the film completed by spring of 2017 and entered into a local film festival. This may push back the release date for the download, but we guarantee that those we chose to receive the download will get it as soon as realistically possible!
THE INSPIRATION PACKAGE
As part of the Inspiration package, you will receive your own Pixie Dust charm, handmade by the characters themselves! Each charm includes a "hope" charm, a star charm, and a miniature bottle of glitter pixie dust (colors may vary, actual size is about 1 in.) Add it to a chain to wear as a necklace, attach it to a keychain, or keep it as a small trinket! This makes a great gift for someone who needs a little magic and a reminder to think happy thoughts! (delivery by December 2016)
As part of this package, you will also receive a personalized 1 minute video clip from the character of your choosing! You could have Cinderella wish your daughter a happy birthday or have Sleeping Beauty reinforce the rules at bedtime! Win a bet with a coworker when you tell them that you met the real Prince Charming! Perhaps Rapunzel could send some support and inspiration to someone recently diagnosed with Alopecia or going through chemotherapy. You could also use this opportunity to share a message of hope with someone battling any of the causes represent from someone who personally survived. The possibilities are endless!

Risks and challenges
One of the main messages of this project is that we are all human and imperfect, so we fully accept our fallibility and recognize that things don't always go as planned. As we are real people with real issues, there are no stunt doubles or replacements in the event of injury, illness, or other barriers to our ability to perform. However, we ARE survivors and the show will go on! We are very passionate about this project and are dedicated to seeing it become a huge success.
That being said, we have already completed many of the photoshoots and some of the footage for the documentary, but we still have a ways to go. If all goes as planned, the filming of the documentary will wrap by the end of 2016 and aims to be completed by Spring 2017. Delivery dates are a rough estimate, mainly because of the amount of time and effort that needs to go into the editing of the documentary. We are also hoping to submit to a local film festival which may inhibit us from delivering the documentary download as planned. However, we know how excited everyone is to be a part of the project and will ensure that all rewards are delivered in a timely fashion! All other rewards will be delivered in time for the 2016 holiday season.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
