What is SITTINGBRIDGE™?
SITTINGBRIDGE is a design firm founded by Bruce Backer and Mona Dehshid that is dedicated to making travel and adventure even more enjoyable. Combined, we have over 40 years of experience designing, developing and manufacturing new products for experience-rich exhibits and environments. During this time we traveled frequently, both nationally and internationally with our projects. While we enjoyed the destinations we noticed that there were no compact, convenient and effective solutions that made the travel itself very comfortable. This led us to look closely at the travel experience and design ways to improve the journey.
Our focus is to improve the comfort of over 1.5 billion people who fly and countless others who travel by trains and buses. We recognized that staying comfortable in confined spaces for long periods of time is difficult. Especially sleeping while sitting is nearly impossible. This problem led us to design two products. First is NAPWRAP.
While observing the travel experience, we became interested in how the position of our arms has a significant effect on our ability to relax and ultimately sleep. As everyone knows, there just isn't enough arm rest for two people. For many, getting close and touching strangers on the narrow armrest is very uncomfortable. You can cross your arms but, after while, that becomes uncomfortable and your wrist hurt. And, because, subconsciously you're using muscles to hold the position, when you fall asleep your hands fall. Or, you can put your hands on your lap but that pulls on your shoulders and becomes uncomfortable.
Ultimately, there's no comfortable way to hold your arms for long periods of time. So we designed NAPWRAP.
What is NAPWRAP™?
NAPWRAP is a personal armrest for those long, crowded and sleepless journeys. It’s designed to help you relax and sleep by creating a comfortable way to hold your arms. It's also compact and convenient for easy traveling. In a way, NAPWRAP provides your own personal cocoon. No more fighting for the armrest and worrying about what to do with your arms. Finally you can relax and start snoozing.
NAPWRAP is designed to provide complete support for both arms in a relaxed and comfortable position. This comfort and support gives you the peace of mind that you don’t need to use the armrest for the journey.
How NAPWRAP Works
NAPWRAP is made from materials ideally suited for a balance of comfort and strength. It stretches easily and conforms to your unique body type.
1. The NAPWRAP wraps around either upper arm
2. It provides support for your opposing hand.
3. Your other hand rests on top of your forearm.
This combination evenly distributes the weight of your arms.
- The exterior 2mm mesh is light weight, soft and breathable.
- The inside is made from bamboo velour which is very soft to the touch and breathable. It’s fibers provide strength and flexibility.
- The elastic strap provides adjustability to fit nearly everyone. Using a very fine extruded hook taps for attachment, the NAPWRAP conveniently rolls around your arm for when its not in use.
Combined, these materials create a wrap that helps you nap. It's super comfortable and supportive. It’s convenient to use on either arm allowing you to switch sides from time to time.
NAPWRAP is designed to be as compact as possible for traveling. And, it has a number of easy ways to carry.
How to wear one
NAPWRAP has many other uses, which help you stay comfortable as the hours pass by in your seat. Changing positions is natural and good for your comfort during long hours of sitting. It’s best if you move around the cabin and stretch during the journey. NAPWRAP is designed to make moving around easy and convenient.
Over the course of designing NAPWRAP we sought materials that are soft, stretchable, breathable and strong. Many prototypes and models were developed to refine a form that fits a wide variety of body sizes while providing the greatest level of comfort when worn for long periods (Product testing included a lot of naps). We evaluated every version after testing with travelers. Patents are pending for NAPWRAP's unique design.

What's Next & Why We Need Your Support
Our 40 years of direct experience in manufacturing gives us insight into the challenges and obstacles for customer service, production and delivering a quality product to our customers.
Over the past year we have established two local, US, manufacturing partners. Each has different capacities for manufacturing. Our initial manufacturing runs will be met by a company that can comfortably meet volumes up to 1,000 units per month. And, we have a higher volume manufacturer established once volumes exceed 1,000 units per month. We know the owners of both these successful businesses and they have produced excellent samples. They’ve proven they can meet our production standards and we’re confident they can meet our demand. Plus, having two separate manufacturers that can produce in parallel gives us a comfortable backup plan. We also have a relationship with an internationally respected packaging and logistics company who will warehouse, package and ship our orders. This will be an important part of our operation as we see volumes grow through an expanded distribution network.
The successful funding of our Kickstarter campaign will allow us to meet the minimum quantities required by our manufacturing partners. We'll also be able to develop our sales channels through travel product retailers and online.
Thank you for supporting our project. And, enjoy NAPWRAPPING.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is to get the word out about the benefits of NAPWRAP to travelers. We will need to show people that they can actually be comfortable while sitting in confined spaces for long periods of time. Then, they will think of NAPWRAP next time they travel.
Also, wearing a NAPWRAP is as simple as tying your shoes but it takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it. We look forward to engaging with our backers to help create the simplest how-to-use instructions.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
