Have you always dreamed of running your favorite major league franchise? Would you like to go back in time, draft prospects, sign free agents, and make the big trades?
Then this is the Kickstarter for you!
What Federal Baseball will be.
Federal Baseball will be a historically based baseball simulation game playable on your iPhone. When you purchase the game from the App Store, you will pick a team and the year you want to start. Any season from 1962 through 2013 will be available.
Once you pick your team, you will immediately be able to release players from your roster, sign free agents, and propose trades to the other AI-controlled owners. But don’t expect to swindle your AI-competitors. Like you, they also have a rough idea of how each player’s career will turn out. So if you start in 1987 with Atlanta, don’t count on Detroit giving you John Smoltz in exchange for Doyle Alexander.
Once you are happy with your roster, and you’ve set your starting lineup and pitching rotation, you can start playing your regular season schedule. The simulator will produce outcomes based on each player’s real life stats and you will be able to see the results batter-by-batter, inning-by-inning, or game-by-game. You can manage each at bat, or sim whole seasons. It’s all up to you.
After the season is over you’ll be able to add any hardware you won (batting titles, division crowns, championships, etc.) to your trophy case and you’ll be able to share your victories online.
Think you can do better than New York’s 27 world titles? Go for it. Do you hate New York and want to see Boston dominate with 20 championships? Then you can shoot for that too.
In the off-season you’ll be able to draft new prospects just like major league teams did in real life. But don’t plan on drafting a team of All-Stars by scooping up Mike Piazza in the 60th round. AI teams will draft the same players they did in real life, but they will draft the best players first. So LA would pick Piazza in Round 1 of the 1988 draft, not the 63rd.
After the draft, the AI-controlled rosters will change to match what they looked like in real life for the new season, and you’ll be able to sign free-agents and offer trades again. Then your new season will start.
What Federal Baseball won’t be.There are some great fantasy baseball products out there that are like Federal Baseball, but different. WhatIfSports, for example, makes two excellent products that are just fundamentally different than what Federal Baseball is trying to accomplish.
WhatIf’s SimLeague baseball game, for example, allows you to draft a fantasy team of players throughout baseball history. So your team might have Randy Johnson and Babe Ruth on it even though they never stepped on a field together. That could never happen in Federal Baseball. Plus SimLeague is a one-off season simulation that doesn’t let you manage a team’s development over time.
WhatIfSports also has a Hardball Dynasty product that lets you be the GM and manager of a team over many seasons. That is a lot like Federal Baseball. But the players are completely fictional. If you wanted Prince Fielder to spend his entire career with your favorite franchise, Hardball Dynasty doesn’t let you do it. And you can’t compete against your most hated baseball rivals. If you love watching San Francisco beat LA, then only Federal Baseball can make that happen.
Why we’re building this game. The goal of this project isn’t to make money (although that would be nice). The goal of this kickstarter is to create a game that baseball fans will love playing. There simply isn’t any other product out there like Federal Baseball right now. If there was, believe me, I would be playing it now and not bothering with this kickstarter.
We Need You to Make This Happen!Federal Baseball has been prototyped, but we need money to pay a graphic designer and professional coder to turn this project into reality. That is where you come in. Given the chance to invest $75,000 we can afford someone to code the game, an artist to create the artwork, and a little left over for some music/sound effects and maybe some marketing.
Every little contribution, whether it is $5, $50, or $500, can help. We need you to make this a reality.
And we don’t just want your pledges (although we do really want them). We also want your input!
This is a unique opportunity to shape a product from the beginning. If you have any suggestions for features in the game, or how the franchise mode should be run, or which stats must be included in the game play, now is the time to make them. We have a very good idea of how we want the game to be run, but nothing is set in stone. You can help craft it!
Risks and challenges
Building a Universal app is a complicated task, but the simplicity of Federal Baseball’s game play and franchise design will make the project doable. With your continued support, we can always come back and add more features like head-to-head play.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
