WHAT IS IT!?
CongAAARGH! is a short monster movie about a giant, mutated conger eel being disturbed from the ocean depths to terrorise a seaside town.
We feel that many of today's monster movies, fantastic as they are, have lost the simple charm, character and "real-ness" of a man in a monster suit. With CongAAARGH!, we aim to help keep this great tradition of film making alive, and along the way, include YOU, our loyal supporters,in the process of designing, fabricating and filming a practical monster as independent filmmakers.
WHO ARE WE?
- James Iles. As Storyboard artist and concept designer, James has worked on over 30 episodes of the classic sci fi series Doctor Who. To see examples of his work, head on over to www.jamesilesstudio.com A lover of all things aquatic, this is James' first project as writer.
- Alastair Jenkins. Musical genius and co producer, Alastair Jenkins, AKA "AJ" has produced a staggering body of work including original albums, music videos and events.
- Jon Grundon. From Daleks to full size mammoths, Jon's team of fabricators at Broken Hare have built a huge range of practical monsters, and have the skills to bring our giant eel to life.
- Steve Hartnell. AKA "Captain Shonkchild".Actor, boatbuilder and nautical adventurer, Steve has the skills and mindset to endure all of the demands of our production, such as chilly atlantic seawater, face-to-fish contact, and spine chilling, ear splitting, toe curling, conger curdling screams upon request.
Our shooting script and storyboards are ready to go, our monster is fully designed, and we have industry professionals from BBC's Doctor Who ready to bring CongAAARGH! to life, and that's where you come in.
WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO!?
We need £3500.00 to cover the cost of producing an industry-standard prosthetic monster,to cover printing and shipping costs for your rewards, and to cover production costs such as lighting rental, transport hire and perhaps one hot coffee for our lead actor. If he's lucky. Although we are filming in summer, so he should be able to make do without.
Once completed, our short film will be submitted to festivals,to attract further interest and support in developing our script to feature length. The fact that we will have a professionally made creature, available for promotional events, will be a massive help in bringing a lot of attention to the film.
All donations from you, however small, will be an enormous help in bringing our deranged, short-sighted, giant creature to life, and sharing our journey with you. We really appreciate you taking a look at our project, and if you could share our film with your fellow monster lovers we'll be really grateful.
Risks and challenges
Our prosthetics team are in high demand, having built amazing characters for Doctor Who and X Men, amongst a long list of other creations. Luckily for us, they are 100% behind CongAAARGH!, and as long as we can cover their material and labour costs, we know that we're going to get a pretty darned amazing monster. Our main risk lies in a slight delay between ordering our creature and completion, due to the team being up against multiple deadlines, but we've allowed for extra time, aiming to film water-based scenes in Spring 2015.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
