The Project
The Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition (BCMCC) was formed to create opportunities for composers and to increase repertoire for the bassoon. Part of the process is a live performance(s) of the winning work(s) as well as the creation of a commercial recording. The inaugural competition was in 2010 with the resulting premiere of the winning works at the International Double Reed Society Conference at Arizona State University and a release of the recording on the MSR Classics label: Bassoon and Friends.
We are now in the process of creating our second CD of the 2012 winning chamber pieces. The works were premiered in January of this year in Round Top, Texas at the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition (MQVC) for young women bassoonists, and we have had fantastic feedback! We are excited to share these works with the world on this album which will be released through the MSR Classics label.
The Music
- Seikilos Quartet for oboe, bassoon, marimba and piano by David Ciancaglini
- Suspended for bassoon and strings by Greg Steinke
- Fire and Ice for soprano, bassoon, and piano by Devin Farney
- Also to be included is the winning piece of our current competition which is for solo bassoon by a female composer. The winner will be announced by July 15th, and the piece will be used for the next round of the MQVC in 2016!
How You Can Help
The BCMCC is a non-profit organization, which means that we basically live from donation to donation. We have many sponsors from the double reed community and other businesses/individuals of which we are truly grateful, but with all of the cool things we are working to accomplish, we need some extra help!
As many of you know, recording an album is pretty expensive, and we want to do it right. The musicians, recording technician, producers, editors, equipment, and recording space are all top notch with the production of an amazing recording in the works. Recording sessions for the chamber pieces have just wrapped up at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and we are now on to editing!
The musicians have donated their time and expertise, and the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music at Bowling Green State University is covering a small portion of the recording cost, so your contribution will help to cover fees for the remaining recording time, editing, mastering, and CD production.
Please think about donating to help us fund our album. Every little bit helps! We would also really appreciate it if you would share this page with your friends and family via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc.. Thanks for reading our page, and thanks for your support!

Risks and challenges
The space is booked and the musicians, producers, and recording engineer are lined up and ready. Our recording dates are set, so our challenges at this point are simply funding the recording and production of the album.
