About this project
The Seanchai, or storytellers, were revered almost as Kings in the time of Ireland's formation. It was their job to set down the history of the people, a task that a proud country took very seriously. It is sometimes difficult to stay in touch with the stories of our ancestors amidst the multiple sources of information and constant demands of life in a modern age.
We want to address this problem. The "we" in that sentence refers to a family of artists and writers with Irish ancestry and a passion for exploration. We plan to travel to the land of the storytellers, and bring a multi-generational perspective to sites and landscapes significant to the "old lore." Each family member will contribute different elements to the finished product.
Leslie, an author whose literature and creative nonfiction appear in a variety of publications, will keep a travel blog and write original works inspired by the journey. Seth, an amateur photographer and versatile artist, will chronicle the trip in photos and sketches. Sloane, a talented award-winning young artist, will keep a print travel journal and sketchbook featuring words and images. Aidan, a young artist, will also capture the trip in words and images. When we return from the journey, we will create an interactive web exhibit through which viewers can see our artworks, photos, and journal pages. In addition, we will publish the print copy of our travel narrative for contributors.
We are seeking $12,000 to pay for travel costs, art supplies, and publishing fees for our project. We deeply appreciate any contribution you can manage.
