À propos du projet
Please share this project with your family and friends or people you know that would use this!
Who is this for?
It's meant for the group leaders who wants the best experience for everyone in their groups. Cavalcade will allow transportation group “leaders” to form voice chats, set calendar meetings and destinations, and extend invites to their groups.
It's meant for anonymous users and Nomads who want end-to-end encryption messaging. Whether you’re part of a sports team, business group, church group or club hitting the road, you’re a cyclist on a weekend ride, or you’re just out for an afternoon stroll, Cavalcade will help get you from A to B efficiently and safely.
Cavalcade is for group leaders who want to make their group experiences better organized and more enjoyable for everyone!
Cavalcade is also for smartphone users who would rather have a fluid voice and visual interface for managing their mapping, social chat and calendaring needs while on the go. Think of it as a personal assistant using your phone while you're travelling to your destinations.
We are distracted by seemingly random map, chat, text and calendar notifications.
This can lead to potentially dangerous situations for users. Many of these services are also tied to social media or big company data sets that are mined to study your habits and influence your buying choices. We also don't care about how much time you spend in our app or how many clicks you click. We care that you're able to balance your needs of offline interaction and online time management.
On Privacy:
We aim to provide "Perfect Privacy" for our service. What this means is perfectly framed by our to-be partner Mycroft:
"Perfect Privacy – We respect your privacy. We already plan to anonymize and strip personally identifiable information from incoming data before using it to train the AI. 'Perfect Privacy' will add one more layer of privacy to this process by immediately deleting all queries. No data will be stored even anonymously. No data will be used to further train the AI."
Basically, we're not Facebook, Apple or Google. We do not play well with their business models and will never use your data for 3rd party services or embed advertisements in our products. We want to be the end-point for communications for all with a month-to-month subscription service.
Why do we care?
We care because we are tired of hearing about accidents that could've been avoided. We’ve also been in group convoys where one car gets lost or someone doesn’t pull off the freeway at the right exit. We also believe our anonymous geo-location approach is important to ensure that user data remains protected in a robust communication system that we’ll provide - which Apple, Google, Microsoft and other mapping services can’t create. Bottom line, we strongly believe Cavalcade can provide information to users that will make our roads safer and more efficient.
What your pledge does for us:
Your hard-earned cash will set in motion the steps needed to develop our app effectively and as soon as possible.
Please don't become complacent and archaic in what social media and other big companies are offering- help us build the experience that we all want to see happen. The sooner we reach our funding goal, the sooner we can build and test Cavalcade.
Where did this project come from?
Founder Craig Merry was riding his bicycle one day when a group of cyclists sped past him before he even realized they were behind him. Craig knew that if he were to have swerved at all, it would have been a disaster. He decided then and there that he wanted to create a way (beyond attaching a mirror to his helmet) that he could know when other cyclists were on his tail. His first idea was a cycling-specific device, the prototype of which helped him win Sacramento Start-Up Weekend 2014. When research showed him just how much other types of transportation were facing similar dilemmas, the idea for MapMe.io was born.
Who are we?
We are Beacon Safety Co., established in Sacramento, California in 2014. Our mission is to make traffic safer and more efficient for all types of transportation, from walking to big rigs. Craig Merry is our CEO while Sergey Akopkokhyants is the technical wizard who will bring Cavalcade to life.
Our original project - "MapMe.io" - was pivoted to Cavalcade for a number of reasons. Another project on the web is called "MapMe" and we wanted a more social group impact on our product. So, MapMe.io's primary function of safety notifications is going to be put into the background of Cavalcade. Here's a little TV clip:

What’s our plan and our schedule?
Thanks to Sacramento Start-Up Weekend and our own piggy banks, we have already completed the initial product release of MapMe.io.
The capital we’re looking to raise through KickStarter will enable us to build up our infrastructure and contract out critical services like graphic design and programming for Cavalcade. It will also allow us to continue market research, develop our initial marketing campaign and get the word on the streets and trails that Cavalcade is on its way! We aim to complete a Beta six months after crowdfunding completion. We will then test Cavalcade with power users for three months. We aim to release Cavalcade Version 1.0 on iOS and Android platforms three months after tests (12 months after crowdfunding completion), at which time we will deliver all remaining KickStarter Pledges to our Backers.
What’s your budget?
$50,000:
- $15,000: Infrastructure costs for 12 months: Multiple Servers for: User Authentication, GeoLocation querying, Chat services, Mapping tiles
- $10,000: Legal Fees
- $15,000: Consultants
- $5,000: Kickstarter Fees
- $5,000: Marketing/PR
Risques et défis
Risks:
Time: We think our 12 month timeline is enough to build the Cavalcade app the way we want it built. However, ensuring that the app meets and exceeds expectations will require vigorous user testing. There could be some surprises along the way and we will be prepared to tackle those.
Money: We think $50,000 can go a very long way. It will allow us to deliver you the best app possible in the time frame we project. The risk here is that as we grow, server costs could go beyond our targeted rates. We may also run into unforeseen costs that we… well, didn’t foresee (but would have if we’d had the Cavalcade app and they were driving by us in a car!).
Challenges:
Talent: We may need to contract outside talent to deliver a number of things, from artwork to promotional items to research to necessities that will help grow our user base. But all of these challenges will be worth it to improve the Cavalcade user experience.
