About this project
The game Super Smash Brothers Melee has earned its place among the peak of competitive video gaming. Over a ten-year history of excellence, the game has hit milestones such as its inclusion in Major League Gaming, five-digit prize pools, and 350-player events that draw in gamers from all over the world.
MELEE-FC Legacy will be held on August 12-14 this year. As a tribute to those ten years, this event holds the unique opportunity to bring together both champions past and present, to produce both memories of past recollection and moments of future permanence. In honor of this history, we will be producing a collection of materials to celebrate the players who took the game to these heights and who continue to push the game to new levels.
First, we will have Travis Beauchamp from East Point Pictures on site, who has been diving into Smash history for the better part of a year while working on his documentary The Smash Brothers. He will be hosting a Panel Discussion over lunch, when we will have the best players on stage to share thoughts and memories of their greatest moments, and to take questions from both Travis and the audience.
Next, we will be producing a card game to recognize Smashers who made the top ranks at national, independent events stretching back to 2004 and up through 2012. This card game is based on the crew rules designed and implemented by KishSquared for the MELEE-FC3 Regional Crew Battles, one of the most legendary events in Smash history.
Finally, we are working with VGBootcamp to produce one of the most epic collections of videos from top players to ever come out of a major national event. Because of MELEE-FC's unique tournament format, there will be more opportunities than ever to capture the best of the best going head-to-head in critical tournament situations. We wish to distribute these videos so that they are permanently accessible online for free.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?
We plan to use the money raised in several ways. First, not all players have equal travel costs, and we would like to help offset some of that to ensure certain players' attendance. Your donation may be allocated to a specific, qualifying player starting at the $75 level. Most important to this history-making event is that we are able to help all of the titans of the game be present, so that is our first priority! As you can see in the rewards, you may direct your donation to go to a player specifically, or you may simply donate generally and we will direct the funds where they can help the most.
Second, we will be applying the money towards some of the costs associated with video production. There will be many hours required both in advance and after the tournament to make these videos permanently available online for the enjoyment of all, and we will use any additional money to help with these costs.
The MELEE-FC series of tournaments is one of the most successful independent tournaments in video game history, having drawn record-breaking crowds with each iteration for the game Super Smash Brothers Melee. The series is being revived to celebrate the history and future of the game simultaneously, and the materials we will produce will forever enshrine Melee's journey as a competitive video game. We appreciate your support, and would love to see you here as well!
