ABOUT THE BOOK
The Beast of Wolfe’s Bay is an adventure/sci-fi story with a splash of comedy, folklore, and romance mixed in for good measure. It’s a one-shot graphic novel, not a series, so you’ll get a thick, full-color book for your bookshelf, if people still have those.
The hero of the story is a young guy named Brian Wegman. Brian is a grad student in anthropology who just can’t seem to finish his PhD. He’s been in school forever, and his advisor is starting to get on his case about it. But despite this, he’s an expert on paleoanthropology.
Brian is called in to consult on a strange murder case in the small, lakeside town he once called home. A bunch of frat boys were killed while partying on spring break, with some strange evidence that suggests the murderer might not exactly be human. Brian must use his expertise to identify the creature, and then join forces with the local police to seek the monster out and destroy it. Along for the adventure are Sheriff Gary Roth, a no-nonsense investigator, his deputies, and his daughter, Winifred, an energetic young folklore professor with an encyclopedic knowledge of the urban legends of the region. It’s basically Beowulf, starring a bunch of nerds. Also, Sasquatch.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where's my money going? Printing costs, ISBN acquisition, advertising, e-reader submission fees -- there's a lot that goes into launching a book! I received a full $5,000 Xeric Grant to publish Gods of Asgard (in black and white), and I used every last cent. For this book, I'd like to have an initial print run of at least 1,500, but ideally more. Plus, this book is still in production, which means it's not totally done. The more money I can raise, the more I can afford to ignore all of my other projects and focus on getting this book done.
What's in it for me? Check out all the sweet rewards to the right! There's a lot -- books, signed books, original sketches, commissions, and I can even work your name or likeness into the story, if you're into that sort of thing.
When will the book be done? I'm aiming for late summer, early fall. A successful kickstarter campaign will ensure that! I will keep all backers informed of the process as things move forward.
Who else is working on this? Nobody! I am getting some opinions here and there, but this book is all me. I've been doing this long enough to feel comfortable taking on the whole process.
What inspired you to do this? I wanted to tell a few different stories -- I wanted to modernize Beowulf, I wanted to tell a character-driven story about grad school, and I wanted to tell a story about Sasquatch. So I kind of rolled those ideas around in my head and this just sort of came out. I also love watching stuff like Ghostbusters, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the X-Files, all of which influenced this project in some small way.
Is it safe for children? It's about as child-friendly as Buffy, X-Files, and Ghostbusters.

What happens since you beat your goal? First off, this would be a textbook case of "first world problems!" I'll just try to make the book as awesome as I can, like bumping up the print quality of the book from "nice" to "exquisite," and expanding the print run to ensure lots of future sales. Any extra money beyond that will go toward additional costs beyond the production of the book, which may include marketing & advertising fees, convention attendance, shipping costs, stuff like that. If I do really well, I'll create some other rewards and incentives... so please, stay tuned!
Where can I learn more about the book? Well, you started here... you can also track my progress on the book's website: www.wolfesbay.com
