In the beginning......
Before you become a parent you have no idea the lengths you will go to to make your child happy. The things you will buy......The stories you will tell.....
Fast forward 6 years and that is where I had found myself in my biggest story yet. When my son lost his first tooth I was so excited! Almost as much as he was. This was my big opportunity to be the Tooth Fairy.
As I sat him down for "the talk" about the Tooth Fairy he looked at me as if I was leaving something out....or someone. He was not convinced that the Tooth Fairy was the only one out there that collected the teeth left under pillows. Sweat was forming on my forehead as my brain was panicking over a recover story.
Before I could stop myself the words just slipped out. The Tooth Ninja! There is a Tooth Ninja! And I kept going. He collects children's lost teeth and uses them to make weapons to protect his village. His eyes widened in excitement. What came next I was not prepared for.
Questions!! Question after question to get more details about The Tooth Ninja.
With each new question the story grew bigger and bigger!! And so did his excitement. As we placed his tooth under his pillow that night I had a pit in my stomach about what I had just done and how to make this work.
I grabbed my husband and confessed what I had done. He got the same excited look as my 6 year old. He ran to his office grabbed some items and brought them to me.
A rubber band? Some paper clips? What in the.....? He then told me to think about all the things our 6 year old loved to do. Then it hit me!! He loves to make things out of random junk!! My husband was a genius!
My husband wrote a little note and signed it from The Tooth Ninja and placed the paper clips and rubber band under his pillow.
Nothing could have prepared us for what happened the next morning. It was 6 a.m. when we heard the scream. In a panic I hurried to the kitchen where my 6 year old was standing. As I looked at his face I realized the scream was not in fear or distress or anything bad, it was a scream of excitement. He was holding the paper clips and rubber band with the biggest smile I had ever seen.
He didn't even ask why The Tooth Ninja left him these items. He sat down in the kitchen and let his creative juices flow. From a sling shots to traps he was creating them all.
Each time he lost a tooth he received something different that let his creative juices flow. A ninja drink, scotch tape and string. The time we gave him string he created traps around the house that made it impossible to get around.
And so the Tooth Ninja was born.....
The Tooth Ninja needs more teeth!
So my big mouth got me into this mess and now I need to spread the word. My kids teeth cannot keep the Ninja village out of danger alone.
The story is filled with Ninjas, a dragon, weapons, and the Tooth Fairy. The story ties in the Tooth Fairy as well as incorporates the creative use of his tools such as a paper clip and a rubber band.
The story would not be complete without the fantastic vision of illustrator Yoko Matsuoka. As a native from Japan she was able to give the story an authentic feel from the trees to the clothes. Her creativity and talent brings this story to life and makes it a sought after story in my household.
How do we get more teeth?
In order for the Tooth Ninja to continue to protect his village he needs people to know about him. His story will be a 28 page full color hard bound book. By going with a hard bound book this will be a book that can be read over and over and be handed down to future teeth losers.
-Cover the cost to print 1,000 hard bound books (including shipping to you)
-Pay for the amazing illustrations
If we exceed our goal we will:
-Pay for an online market place where you can get and exchange ideas. Where kids can see what weapons their tooth made. As well as see what the Tooth Ninja is up to.
So while I have fallen victim to the parental trap of making up stories for my kids, admit it, we have all done it one time or another. The Tooth Ninja needs help and he can't do it if his story hasn't been heard. Let's get The Tooth Ninja some teeth!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I will do my best not to make a story out of my response.
Risks and challenges
With any project the potential for risks and challenges are there. However, I know, how important timely fulfillment to each backer is as well. I already have the book fully illustrated and is ready for print. This will greatly reduce the time to market. I am a "go big or go home" kind of girl and just need your support to prove it.
The next time someone loses a tooth it would be so amazing to hear that The Tooth Ninja came to their house. With your help we can make this happen and introduce a new tradition to your family as well.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
