Bad Candy is a R-rated horror comic in the vein of 1980's horror cinema. Robert Henry and Joe Evans (with the help of Toxic Goddess Oshun) have set out to create a fun, violent, monster comic. The eventual goal is to distribute nationally but, in the meantime, we are creating Limited Edition Sneak Preview books. Like a movie sneak preview, these comics serve as a place to offer a raw product that, while finished, can maybe be tweaked some before finding a wider release. We hope this allows the viewer/reader a chance to be a part of something that is new and exciting and the chance to say "I was there first.".
The story is set in 1982. The Lewis family lives on land that is prosperous and protected by the spirit called Bad Candy. Every day in the harvest month of October Bad Candy needs an offering. If it gets that offering all is well but, if it doesn't, then beware. The Lewis family is good about making sure there are offerings.
Unfortunately, a gang of bank robbers, on the run from their latest heist, take over the Lewis' house.
The offering is not made and Bad Candy awakens!
We published the first Sneak Preview Edition for Wizard World OKC last October. It was limited to 150 copies and has been received very well. We will be releasing the second issue at New World Comic Con July 23rd in Oklahoma City.
Every one who backs the project will have their name, if they want to, put in the "thank you" page. For those who haven't gotten the first issue, there will be a re-issue of #1. It will have a new cover, some minor corrections, and some new content. For the completest out there, we will be offering a handful of first editions as well. Tim Vigil, co-creator of Faust, has created an alternate cover for issue 2.
We will also have an early bird special for people who support early. We'll include an 8-page ashcan Bad Candy: Special Delivery. We'll also throw in last year's Bad Candy Christmas card.
Furthermore, Joe Evans and Robert Henry will be offering a tier where we take on a commission. An 11x14 character of your choosing for helping us make this issue a reality!
The issue is almost complete as I type this. There will be at least one more issue and possibly another after that depending on how we decide to release them. The story has been completed for some time but, we've stayed open to the creative process and expanded some things. We hope that people will enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed crafting it. Early feedback has been very good.
Bad Candy is bloody and violent with nudity and horrible things happening, You have been warned!
Lastly, we hope that you will join us on this endeavor. We are creating a love letter to 80's horror cinema that we grew up watching. We're not asking for much; only $400. That's enough to get us a limited print run. However, if we manage more that means we can print more books and that means we spread the word that much more. The Kickstarter is only going to run for 7 (seven) days! So, if you're thinking about it, don't think too long. You might miss out. Thank you for taking the time to read about our project and we hope you can support us!
Risks and challenges
There are many challenges and risks associated with any Kickstarter project. We understand this and do not take it lightly. Our first Kickstarter attempt was to produce Bad Candy as a graphic novel but, when it didn't take we shifted gears and put out the first issue on our own. We hope that the work we have put in shows that we are committed to making this project a reality. We also hope you will be a part of its success.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
