PSC Games are very proud and excited to announce our latest board game: Lincoln, by the renowned designer Martin Wallace (Brass, Steam, A Few Acres of Snow, Gettysburg and many, many more great games).
PROJECT FUNDED! STRETCH GOALS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 UNLOCKED! MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED OUR CAMPAIGN.
The game includes a lovely full-colour board depicting the key locations of the war, decks of cards for both sides (119 cards), and card counters for armies, forts and area control flags (66 counters plus 2 blockade and European influence trackers). We commissioned renowned military artist Peter Dennis to create artwork for the cards and counters, and he’s done us proud.
Man Vs Meeple offers up a comprehensive overview of Lincoln HERE. We think this review tells you pretty much everything you need to know!
Moe's Gaming Table has another unboxing video, with added info about game play. Check it out HERE.
If you pledge your support for Lincoln, your order will be dispatched before the game reaches the shops, you will receive all of the unlocked stretch goals, you will benefit from a discount to the MSRP, and you will have the opportunity to acquire some other specially selected games from both PSC Games and Worthington Publishing.
ABOUT THE GAME
Lincoln is a fast-paced, two player, card-driven strategy wargame set in the American Civil War – allowing you to refight the entire American Civil War at a strategic level in under two hours!
You can read a draft of the rulebook HERE. We are making a few changes and clarifications to the final version but this gives a good idea of how Lincoln plays.
Game play uses area movement, area control, and decks of cards to provide your command choices and luck – there are no dice in Lincoln! The Union and Confederate players each have their own card decks, reflecting the relative strengths and weaknesses of both sides.
The Union player must do all the running to win the game by the time he or she has cycled through the Union card deck for the third time, having accumulated the required amount of victory points by capturing Confederate-controlled areas, as well as squeezing the Confederate player with a naval blockade. The Confederate player must hold on and thwart the North’s victory ambitions to win!
Each time the decks are cycled, the Union player adds some better quality cards and so becomes stronger as the game progresses, where as the Confederate player adds lower quality cards and so becomes weaker. The underlying game mechanism is one of ‘deck destruction’ rather than the more normal deck building. Cards have multiple uses and can be recycled if used one way but during the course of the game you have to decide which cards are going to be permanently sacrificed from your deck cycle to allow you to build units.
For the Confederate player, building too many units can lead to problems with movement and combat, simulating the problems the Southern States had as the war dragged on – for example, they had to ‘eat’ their rail network to provide iron for munitions. But building too few units will allow the Union to roll your forces over too easily, capture victory point areas and win the game – there are difficult and careful command decisions to be made!
WHAT THE REVIEWERS SAY
The various options and the clever balance of very different forces all make for a thoughtful and engrossing strategy game with rather more of a ‘euro’ feel than you’ll find in a more conventional war game. If you’re a traditional war gamer, Lincoln is a game that will certainly make you think; if you don’t usually consider war-themed games, then you really mustn’t let the Civil War setting put you off giving this game a try. This is a subtle hand management game that offers the opportunity for some intriguing cat and mouse tactics. Definitely one to check out. Board's Eye View
The fast, simple card play and multi-layered depth combine with exciting combat from the outset to make Lincoln a fantastic, entry level wargame for two players. The two tracks on the board introduce just enough of a distraction to offer an alternative route to victory which, alongside the victory point mechanic ... will always help to break up a stalemate. Nerdly.co.uk
It’s an accessible game that offers enough layers of depth and strategy to keep things interesting for both grognards and non-wargamers alike in its 90 minutes to two-hour play time. Moesgametable.com
A successful Kickstarter campaign will mean that we can make a number of upgrades to our game. As the amounts shown below are reached, we'll be making the following upgrades:
Stretch goal 1: GBP £12,000 - UNLOCKED
As a Kickstarter Exclusive, we'll give you stickers to place on the European Influence and Blockade wooden counters.
Stretch goal 2: GBP £15,000 - UNLOCKED
We'll upgrade the card decks to a higher quality linen finish.
Stretch goal 3: GBP £20,000 - UNLOCKED
We'll upgrade the thickness of the card counters – we love the feel of slightly chunkier counters as we remove enemy armies from the board!
Stretch goal 4: GBP £25,000 - UNLOCKED
As a Kickstarter Exclusive, we'll give you 22 wooden Victory Point counters.
Stretch goal 5: GBP £35,000 - UNLOCKED
As a Kickstarter Exclusive, we'll give you a second copy of the rulebook so you have one for each player. We think this will be a great help when you're looking up a rule or card without your opponent seeing what you are up to!
Stretch goal 6: GBP £40,000 - UNLOCKED
As a Kickstarter Exclusive, we'll print a manifest of the cards in the game, as a handy visual reference.
Stretch goal 7: GBP £42,000 - UNLOCKED
We'll make the counters double-sided. We were only intending to print on one side as the counters are never flipped, but a few people have asked if we can make them double-sided. If we unlock this stretch goal your wish will be granted!
Stretch goal 8: GBP £44,000 - UNLOCKED
We'll use Peter Dennis' battle scene artwork to print an eye-catching box insert rather than the plain insert we usually include in our games.
Stretch goal 9: GBP £50,000 - UNLOCKED
You remember those KS Exclusive Victory Point counters unlocked in Stretch Goal 4? Well, as another KS Exclusive, we'll add a card Victory Point mat to stack them on, making it easy to see how close to victory the Union player is. Here's the lovely artwork we'll use...
Stretch goal 10: GBP £56,000
As a Kickstarter Exclusive we'll give you two custom-printed deck boxes to store your Union and Confederate decks in.

Risks and challenges
Unexpected delays may affect any production schedule. In our case, these would most likely be associated with shipping, manufacturing, or customs processes. Should any delays occur, we will endeavour to keep our backers up to date every step of the way.
The estimated shipping date is September 2018, but please keep in mind this is only an estimate. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping, backers in some regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others.
Please note that our game's stretch goals and final design may differ from those shown in our campaign – sometimes we need to make technical changes as we go, or find a better way to do things.
If you’re unsure about committing to our Kickstarter, please remember that you’ll be able to buy the game once it hits the shops, but without any Kickstarter exclusives or the benefit of special Kickstarter prices.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
