UPDATE 05/14: -$5k to go, 19 days left! I am beyond grateful!
In an effort to reach our goal, Framed Photographs have been deeply discounted. Scroll down to see some of the images you can choose from or contact me directly for more choices.
When I was twenty-two years old, a loved one's tragic car accident broke my heart. With nothing to lose, I tried to heal her. The experience completely altered the course of my life.
Within six months, I quit my job, hit the road, and ventured into the unknown. The plan was to attend music festivals across North America, dance barefoot in the open air, taste a freedom I'd never had, and document my journey through writing and photography.
Inspired by Jack Kerouac, Paulo Coelho, and Carlos Castaneda, I drove 20,000 miles my first summer alone. When all was said and done, I'd traveled around the world for nearly a decade. I met wise teachers, faced my fears, explored enchanting, natural places, had incredible visions, and experienced impossible synchronicities. I began to study yoga and to record my dreams on a nightly basis. In time, my life became indistinguishable from a dream, one both beautiful and terrifying.
15 years later, I'm finally ready to tell my story. The Light Travelers was conceived as a gift for my fallen friend, but has become something much more than that. It's a voice for an entire generation of artists, teachers, healers, dreamers and energy workers, as well as a catharsis for me.
Why is my story important to tell?
The Light Travelers is the book I wish I'd had when I began my journey. It's a roadmap for anyone that has ever experienced the magic of life but has hid it away, or lacked the language or courage to express their truth.
Written with humor and humility, I offer my story as a reminder that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. The book teaches us of the importance of taking risks, stepping out of our comfort zone, and surmounting great challenges in order to discover ourselves and rekindle childlike joy and wonder. I'm not interested in telling you to be like me or to walk my path. Rather, The Light Travelers encourages you to discover your own path, and to follow it bravely wherever it may lead you.
My goal for this Kickstarter is to distribute 1000 advance copies of the book. Every book your pledge creates brings us one step closer. I've decided to offer the book as close to the cost of production as possible. My hope is that you won't feel a financial strain when you pledge. If you like what you see and think others will too, please consider gifting the book to others and share the link to this page to encourage your friends, followers & FB groups to support it. I believe this book has the power to change lives for the better, but it will take a community effort to make this dream a reality. Thank you!
The Light Travelers is roughly 60k words, or about 230 pages in a small-sized paperback. It's a relatively quick, easy and enjoyable read, though it may stretch your imagination to its limits in the best possible way.
As much I would love to include photographs in the book, at this time it's text-only. However, you can look at many of the images accompanying the journey vis-a-vis my Instagram page and TheLightTravelers.com. Also, if you select one of the reward tiers that includes a photograph, I'll send you a museum-quality, 11"x14" signed print (framed or unframed) along with your books! This particular set of 4 below is my favorite and will fill your whole wall!
As noted above, my goal for this Kickstarter is to distribute 1000 advance copies of the book. I've chosen to self-publish and use Kickstarter rather than take a traditional publishing route in order to maintain complete creative control over the writing and publishing process. I've always preferred a DIY approach and like the idea of establishing a personal connection with readers. Fortunately, tools like Kickstarter and social media, for all its ails, enable us to find and support each other.
At its core, my intention is to share my story with others that may benefit from it. I'm not out to sell a million copies (though I'm fine with that if it's meant to be). I'm more interested in having you read it.
To give you a rough idea of costs and where your money is going when we meet our goal:
• Printing = $5,000
• Packing & shipping = $6,000
• Editing fees = $1000
• Marketing, PR, website, safety net, and misc. costs = $1000
• Publication, registration and copyright fees = $500
• Kickstarter & payment processing fees = $1,500
• 15 years of blood, sweat and tears to bring these stories to you = Priceless
While $15,000 is the minimum to meet production costs, my aspiration is to exceed that amount and to use additional funds raised to help support the production of transformational events, finance other artists' projects and bring together communities of healers. I also wish to jumpstart the publication of several, additional books I've already written (including a sequel to The Light Travelers), and--my big dream--to help fund the purchase and preservation of land and the creation of a healing center for Evolutionary Education®. In the end, this book is just a small step toward co-creating a world in which we never stop learning, anything is possible, and each of us is inspired to live life as a mystical journey.
By the time you're done reading the book, you'll likely know me better than I know myself. After "retiring" from full-time nomadism, I went back to school and earned a PhD in Psychology, with an emphasis on consciousness studies, spirituality and social change. I wrote my dissertation on mystical & healing states during lucid dreams (and look forward to sharing this work with you soon). I currently serve as the Director of Evolutionary Education®, a school for experiential learning through which I facilitate a variety of trainings for personal and professional development. I'm also on faculty at Atlantic University, where I teach Transpersonal Psychology. I try to laugh and cry at least once a days, love to make music, and still record my dreams every night. Thank you for taking the time to visit my Kickstarter page and to consider backing this project. Your support is invaluable to me.
If you have any questions about the book, the rewards, or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me or to post them to the FAQ section. I welcome your comments and look forward to sending you your books as soon as they're ready!
**A note to international backers: I'm happy to ship books and other rewards to you if you're able to cover the additional shipping costs. Please contact me directly if you'd like to pledge and we'll make it happen!
Risks and challenges
I don't foresee any significant risks or challenges other than the possibility that your books or other rewards are damaged during the shipping process. In such instances, I'll gladly do my best to replace or repair them and make things right. In all likelihood, the books will ship before August though there is always the chance they could be delayed by factors out of my control, such as problems in the printing, shipping, or publication process. Delays in receiving donor information could also hold things up. Should any problems arise, you will be notified immediately. Thank you for understanding!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
