About this project
This is a story worth telling.
It was written by published poet and native Scotsman, Norrie Smith who came to the states in 1977 after attending the Duncan Jordanstone College of Art and Design. Now deceased, Norrie wrote McTavish for his his sons.
It's a great story with intriguing Scottish characters that lend themselves to launch a successful merchandising line. It has been edited and illustrated and is ready to format for publishing.
Why will it be successful?
It's all in the marketing. McTavish will go to Scottish highland games in Florida and beyond to reach those interested in Scottish culture. Because of the many characters in the book, the merchandising line we hope to launch will be endless. Money made will be reinvested into subsequent printing and merchandise production.
During my newspaper career at the Tampa Bay Times (Florida's largest newspaper), I was tagged to develop a product that targeted 18-30 year-old readers. My team launched tbt* which became the fastest growing free daily newspaper in the United States. A lot of its success had to do with understanding your niche market and going after them. I have a strong belief in my abilities to find people who want a product and get that product to them.
I have written a business plan, developed a 1-3 year budget and pulled together my target market information: gift shops in Florida, the UK and highland game dates and locales.
What's all that money going for?
Printing and storage of 2500 copies of the book, recording and pressing the narrative CDs, final illustrations, trademark, copyright and ISBN costs, marketing events and materials, and customized tee shirts.
Risks and challenges
Since the book is written and edited, the remaining pieces are formatting the illustrations with the text and putting it in an electronic PDF for printing. I am already working with an artist to accomplish that objective. One obstacle would be that shipping could be delayed but I plan to keep my backers updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
