This book has been written and just needs a final edit and the funding to self-publish/print/distribute. It is shaping up to be around 100 or so pages with a 7 1/2 x 10 inch layout- with a soft cover. There will be a handful of illustrations some professional and some sketched by the twins themselves.
This project came into fruition through 3 years of posting on my Facebook page about the everyday dealings with my surprisingly comical, now 5 year old, twin daughters. Their conversations with me, with each other and their questions about the world.
It's very important to me that this gets published or printed. I have the makings of a second book ready to move forward as well at this point.
A beautiful and talented friend contributed to the illustrations and text placement so I would like for this to move for her sake as well.
Here is an example of what you will see:
Natalie: Mom- why do all the hearts on this card have arrows through them?
Me: That is because Cupid shot them with his bow and arrow.
Natalie: Who is Cupid? Is he an angel?
Me: Ummm- yeah- I think you would say that.
Abby: No offense, Natalie but everybody knows Cupid is a reindeer.
Me: Abby! What is going on these past few weeks I feel like I keep having to say "focus, focus, focus, focus" all the time. I don't get what the problem is?
Abby: Well, I probably should have told you this awhile ago but I don't know what the word 'focus' means.
Me: Ladies- I'm thinking about redecorating your room this weekend. Do you have any ideas of how you would like me to do it?
Natalie: Well, I was thinking I could get a Jesus comforter for my bed.
Abby: oh- I'll take one with Mary on it, then.
Me: it sure seems like somebody has been hanging out with their Grammy this weekend!
Risks and challenges
Obstacles: Should this project get fully funded, my main obstacle will be the final edit of the book: getting the message across while maintaining the twins' character. The most demanding and physical obstacles that may arise (and that I have been the most fearful of) is the actual shipping of the book. If for some reason the demand is larger than we anticipate- which would be great- we have a small space lined up to move the supplies into to get the project packed and shipped in a timely manner.
My biggest fear is releasing all of this information and emotion about my family, my family's losses/deaths, as well as very publicly losing my business in small town, USA.
I have found that in sharing these stories over the past few years, I have put my kids in a public light. I wasn't really prepared for all that comes along with that. I will have to tackle that problem, for sure, if this project gets picked up.
On the other hand, they are truly amazing kids and I would like for people to know them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
