Blurble is the new, exciting, and hilarious card game that is great for just about any crowd. With 300 different hand-drawn images, you'll have hours of entertainment every time you play, and the game will never be played the same way twice. Play with a friend while you're waiting for the bus or invite a group over for a game night. It's small size and varying options for length of game play make it perfect for any occasion.
Here's how you play:
One person starts as the 'Blurbler' (the deck-holder). The Blurbler flips a card face-up between the person to the left and him/herself. The race is on between these two opponents! The first to say an English word (or choose another language) that starts with the same letter as the image on the card wins. I know this may sound easy, but there's a catch. Proper nouns, numbers, and words with fewer than 3 letters cannot be used. Here's an example:
The card is flipped and you see the image above...You yell, "Knife" - but that starts with 'K', not 'N'. "Nicole" - nope, proper noun. "No" - not enough letters. "Nine" - sorry, no numbers allowed. By the time you've finally uttered a word that counts, your opponent has already shouted "Ninja," the whole table has had a good laugh, and you've been defeated. Just check out the video above to see how fun and challenging Blurble can be.
Great for Kids:
Blurble is a great game for young children! Unlike many games that are simply too difficult for a child to grasp, Blurble can be picked up very quickly and kids love the cute characters! As soon as children are able to identify common pictures and have picked up the fundamentals of spelling, they are ready for the basics of Blurble. Check out my 'For Kids!' page on my website by clicking HERE to see lots of great ways to use Blurble as a fun educational tool for children of all ages.
The birth of Blurble:
I invented this game years ago, simply to play with my friends, but the overwhelming positive feedback encouraged me to take it to the next level. What started out as a 100 card deck of self-laminated Google images pasted to note cards has transformed into a professionaly illustrated, high quality printed deck of 300 cards. The art alone is a pleasure to look at...not that you'll have much time to admire it when your turn is up. Over the years, the game has been played amongst several groups of my friends for hundreds of hours, and has been a hoot every time! I know you'll love Blurble as much as we do!
When I set out to bring Blurble to a larger audience, I knew how important it would be to find an artist who's work would define the game and appeal to all audiences. I wanted a style that was bright and crisp, unique and friendly, cute but not too cute. After exploring several art forums and searching through numerous artists' profiles, I found exactly what I was looking for. Her name is Erin Koehler and she is the mastermind of design behind every Blurble image. Erin is a freelance artist, currently living in Portland, Oregon. She is an illustrator and art director for books, apps, films, and most recently, games! Check out more amazing work by visiting her website: http://www.coroflot.com/erinkoehlerart.
What your pledges will support:
This project has been a blast, but it's been a more pricey endeavor than I had initially imagined. Your support will help me to offset many of the already existing expenses and will be crucial in assisting with future expenses. All money raised will be used to pay for hiring the artist, purchasing protection in the form of copyrights, trademarks, and Limited Liability Company status, website development and maintenance, purchasing the first run of games, and providing you with great rewards! This is only the tip of the iceburg, and all additional funds will be used for costs associated with attending game conventions, spreading the word of Blurble, improvements to the game, and perhaps, other Blurble editions.
To show my appreciation for your interest and support, I'm offering several great rewards. There are many packages to choose from depending on which rewards you are after. Rewards include a complete deck of Blurble the card game, a Tee shirt with original artwork from the game, a poster and/or a puzzle with the Blurble logo and hundreds of Blurble images, your favorite Blurble character blown up to poster size and signed by the artist and myself, and even the chance to come to my house to dine and play Blurble with my friends and me. Below is a description of each of these prizes.
BLURBLE GAME: 300 card deck in a two-piece top-loading box. The box has not yet been created, but it will be a special edition box that says "Kickstarter" on it, which will never be reproduced again. Get the game before it's available in stores! Here's an example of the front and back of a Blurble card.
BLURBLE TEE SHIRT: A white cotton Tee shirt with the Blurble logo and several Blurble characters. Sizes range from youth small to adult XL. XXL and XXXL are available for an additional $2 per shirt. The image below will be printed on the front of the shirt. The back of the shirt is plain. Also, below the image, the Blurble slogan, "the fast-paced game for quick-witted people" will be printed.
BLURBLE PUZZLE/POSTER: The image below will be made into both a poster and a puzzle. The poster will be roughly 13" tall and 17" wide. The puzzle will contain 252 pieces and comes in a metal storage tin with the same image printed on top. The puzzle will be 10.5" by 13.5" when constructed.
BLURBLE CHARACTER BLOWN UP: Is there a specific character that you saw in the poster or one of the video clips that you find particularly cute or charming? If so, you can tell me which of these characters it is, and I will blow it up to poster size (roughly 13" tall and 18" wide), and both the artist and myself will sign it for you. Maybe you like the graceful hummingbird, the charming crab, or the relaxing hammock. Whatever your favorite may be...it can be yours!
SPECIAL OFFER ON REWARDS: On the right side of your screen are the reward options. Starting with the $36 reward, and extending to all larger reward levels, backers have the option to add on additional rewards to their package. Supporters may add as many posters as you want at $8 per poster, as many shirts as you want at $12 per shirt, as many games as you want at $15 per game, and as many puzzles as you want at $30 per puzzle. This offer is for U.S. customers only (as shipping costs to international countries would be very difficult to calculate) and shipping is included. Here's an example: You've chosen reward #5 which is $36 and includes a game, a shirt, and a poster. However, you'd like to add on two extra games for each of your nephews and an extra shirt for your significant other. Two extra games = $30. One extra shirt = $12. Your pledge total would be $36 + $30 + $12 = $78. So, you would choose the $36 reward, but would pledge $78. Once the funding is complete, I will send out a survey to all supporters to confirm which additional prizes you would like.
BRAND NEW OFFER FOR LAST 48 HOURS...Any backer pledging $75 or more has the option to add on a 500-card Blurble deck to their order for an additional $30. (The pledge must be at least $75 before adding the 500-card deck). If you choose to upgrade, this does not change your previous order. For instance, if you want a 500-card deck on top of your $75 pledge (which gets you two 300-card decks, one shirt, one poster, and one puzzle) then pledge $105 or more. I'll send out backer reviews at the end of the project to clarify your addition of this 500-card reward. U.S. backers over $75 can add as many 500-card boxes to their order at $30 each. Backers from Canada and Mexico can add as many 500-card boxes to their order at $50 each. Backers from all other countries can add as many 500-card boxes to their order at $65 each. Sorry international backers....shipping expenses suck!
At this point, the artwork is finished, the rules have been finalized, and the the game has seen hundreds of hours of play-testing. The copyrights, trademark, and Limited Liabiliy Company status are all in place, the website and Facebook page are up and running, and everyone keeps asking me when it'll be ready to ship. In order for me to offer Blurble at a reasonable price, I need to order at least 3,000 units, which is a very large up-front cost. Blurble is nearly ready for the market, and you can help bring it to life! Any contribution is appreciated, and will bring me closer to my $15,000 goal. Check out the great prizes on the right and see which one is most intriguing to you.
Fun fact: I spent over 20 hours going through every word of a dictionary, in order to choose the very best to represent Blurble!
