This summer, I plan to make at least 500 paintings. I paint every night of every day of every week, and I would like to continue to do the same, but in a bigger way this summer. I plan on leaving at least 200 paintings on the streets of Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. The project will be complete when I have painted at least 500 paintings AND left at least 200 for people to find. All paintings that do not go to backers will be given away in this fashion.
I am also creating street-art style stickers to commemorate the project, and these will go to all backers. I will start the project when funds have been cleared, and I will have all of the paintings done by the official end of summer (9/21/13). I assure you that the quality of my paintings will not suffer due to the large quantity that I am doing, especially since some of the best paintings I feel I have ever done were completed in under an hour.
I am a student at the University of Nebraska, so I will start slowly until the end of the school year, and I will do the bulk of the paintings during the summer. Funds will be used to purchase canvas, paint brushes, and paints (I have about enough of these things to make 100 paintings right now, I need your help for the rest!) Funds will also be used to ship rewards to backers. Please note that the expected delivery dates for rewards $10 and above are very liberal in order to accommodate for the possibility (and hope!) of a larger response than I need to actually complete the project. All paintings sent to backers will be on stretched canvas, others may be on canvas panels. An example of my work, in the form of a self-portrait, is the primary photo for the project. VIDEO (including pictures of many more paintings) COMING SOON!!!
Risks and challenges
1. Limited work space- I will overcome this because I have been painting in my small apartment for the last 3 years. I'm sure I can work it out!
2. 500 paintings is a lot! - Some of my paintings will be spray paintings, but the majority will be acrylic. Spray paintings are usually completed relatively quickly, acrylics take some time, and oils take FOREVER to dry. Until my summer break begins, I will be painting mostly acrylic paintings that will be included in the project. I will have at least 100 paintings done before summer break, so that should have me in a pretty good place to devote the rest of my summer to painting. I can usually start 6-10 paintings in one day, finish them the next day, and start 6-10 more on that same day. Like I mentioned in the description, I paint every day, it is my passion, I will be able to do this, and I will love every minute of it.
