About this project
Dive into the mind of "Internet Messiah" Warren Ellis, a comic book writer / alt culture thinker who's writing our future everyday. This film features extensive interviews with Ellis himself, some of his closest friends and collaborators, as they ponder the myth and the man behind some of the wildest ideas in comics today!
This film is the followup to the critically acclaimed Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods, which was hailed as "An instant classic" by Wired, and "The most inspirational picture on the state of the creative imagination in the 21st Century" by the Seattle Post Globe. Filmmakers Patrick Meaney and Jordan Rennert are seeking to make Captured Ghosts even better, but need your help to do so!
We have shot interviews with Warren, and many of his collaborators, but have exhausted our budget! To complete editing and shooting on the film we need your help. The goal of the film is to create a cinematic representation of Warren's mind, and that takes some resources!
Specifically, your donation would help support post-production on the film, allow us to shoot the material needed to illustrate Warren's world and let us secure the final interviews needed to make the movie work!
We are reaching out to fans to support the project and ensure that the best film possible gets made. And, for your support, you'll get access to a wide range of Warren related items!
As reward for your support, you can get a number of one off items, as well as...
Books from the Sequart Library, including these three new books related to Warren Ellis...
- Keeping the World Strange: A Planetary Guide (coming in May)
- Voyage in Noise: Warren Ellis and the Demise of Western Civilization (later in 2011)
Note: All people outside the US should add $10 to their pledge to cover shipping.
Also, the DVD can be replaced with a digital download if you'd prefer!
Here's some more info on the film...
The film features the most extensive interview Ellis has ever given, and spans his life, from his first memory watching the moon landing as a child, to his recent cross-media success with the film adaptation of Red. Along the way, Ellis's acerbic wit and core belief in humanity comes across like never before.
Complimenting Ellis's own words are interviews with his artistic collaborators, friends and admirers, including Darick Robertson, Joe Quesada, Matt Fraction, Molly Crabapple, Jeff Newelt, Phil Jimenez and many more. The film features numerous ambient interludes that spotlight Ellis's prose and writing from both his online columns and his comics.
The film was shot over the course of 2010 and 2011 in England, San Diego and New York, and is in post production now. It will be completed by the summer, released theatrically in the Fall with a late 2011 DVD release to follow.
