I may be in the minority, but I actually want you to worry about the "marginal quality improvements" or anything other little idiom that pushes you on to become better. Why? Because while we were buying hard goods, this was more about buying you time to become a better artist and in that, take risks, be over achieving and just hone your art.

So Dan, please continue to strive! It shows that every single cent was well spent.

    2. Dan Kim Creator on March 24, 2014

And thanks to everyone for being so patient through this, really, really, just crazy delay. I need to deliver and get this material into your hands instead of worrying about marginal quality improvements.

    3. Dan Kim Creator on March 24, 2014

I'm afraid I've also been bitten by the #1 killer of KS projects -- project creep and anxiety about quality. A day passes, so I have to be able to deliver something EVEN BETTER, so I grind and try and improve drawing quality... ... but then I spend the day trying to improve my drawing ability. But now that the drawing is better, I should improve writing, right? So I go on and try to improve the story, add some bits, etc. Oh man, it's going to be so much bigger and better! And now the project is bigger and requires better drawings, so I should go back and improve drawing... -- and so on.

Well, you can see some of the results of my foolishness below...

Comparison of colour works (2013 to current):

      Another recent colour work:

You can compare the above drawings to some of drawings of Cupcake I did just before the Kickstarter campaign:…

In any case, I've stopped grinding and started producing comic pages for the digital rewards again.

Here's the current page of Vampire Princess I'm working on (NSFW!):

Here are the 25 other pages (so far):…=

It was originally supposed to be 8 pages of small 4komas, but like I said, it exploded into something much bigger.

I've been producing a lot of character art for the series as part of my drawing practice, too... Mostly Vicky (the short-haired Templar with the mechanical arm):…

If you scroll through, you can see the slow improvement over the months.

Anyway, I'm still on the job and I'll make sure everyone gets what they paid for, even if it takes a while.

Apologies, though, for falling out of communication and the terrible wait. Just anxiety coupled with guilt. Ugh. Hopefully it'll all be worth the wait! : <

    4. Jonathan Barrett on March 21, 2014

Um, hey, I don't want to complain, since I have my awesome physical book and everything else but... what is going on with the Digital rewards? You said Christmas last I asked, but that was a few months ago now... I mean, take as much time as you need, but, it would be nice to know what is going on.

    5. Jonathan Barrett on December 30, 2013

Lizzie Shinkicker should be a secret boss in it.

    6. Dan Kim Creator on December 22, 2013

Yup, something like that. : >

    7. Jonathan Barrett on December 22, 2013

Wait a sec, Magical Girl Maker? Will this be anything like Gainax's old Princess Maker games?

    8. Dan Kim Creator on December 19, 2013

      Ha ha, thanks. : >

Well, I was thinking about doing a KS each time I finish a book -- and there's a magical girl maker game that I wanted to do... but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Gotta get take care of everyone who backed this one first before I do anything else.

    9. Jonathan Barrett on December 18, 2013

No problems, I was just curious, since it hadn't been mentioned for a while. Physical stuff arrived just fine, so you're doing so much better than a good deal of other projects. *cough*LAGAMESPACE+ENDLESSFANTASY*cough*
I was mostly asking just because I am looking forward to crossing this kickstarter off the waiting list entirely, especially since the KS site now allows us to actually tick them off.
You done good with this Kickstarter, do you think you'll do another in the future?

    10. Dan Kim Creator on December 14, 2013

Sorry for dragging this out. I thought I'd aim for a release on the 25th and make it a nice Christmas surprise for everyone. Hopefully that'll be okay.

I know it's pretty frustrating to wait on stuff like this - I've just been hung up on improving drawing quality for the last several months. To the point of obsession. Thankfully the results have been pretty good, going from this (before drawing ~500 sketches and ~100 waifus):

to this (after all the sketches and waifus):

      to this (just recently):

Hopefully it'll all be worth the wait.

    11. Jonathan Barrett on December 9, 2013

How are the Digital Rewards coming along? Looking forward to those bonus comics, etc…

    12. Dan Kim Creator on November 23, 2013

      Hey, Dieithrio.

I see -- the two books you ordered were wrapped and sent individually. It seems unthinkable that BOTH would go missing, so something definitely went wrong.

I'm sending you a direct message.

    13. Dieithrio on November 23, 2013

Ok, I've been patient but I think I have waited enough now and nothing arrived. )': Is there a way to find out what happened to the package?

    14. Dieithrio on September 29, 2013

@TheChosenOne. Oversea mail can be a pain sometimes and this is the case. But I'm not losing hope for my copies since you receveid the package recently as you have stated.

    15. Dan Kim Creator on September 28, 2013

Glad it arrived safely! : >

      Now I just have to send out the digital goods. ;w;

Mine just came in the mail (Australia). It looks amazing!

    17. TheChosenOne on September 28, 2013

Received mine a few days ago. (Netherlands)

    18. Dieithrio on September 13, 2013

Yeah, crossing fingers... Maybe that's just slow...

    19. Dan Kim Creator on September 12, 2013

I sent both of your books almost 6-7 weeks ago... normally they should have arrived by now.
      Maybe give it another week?

    20. Dieithrio on September 12, 2013

Is it normal to not have received it yet? :\ (Deluxe Hardcover - Italy)

    21. Dan Kim Creator on September 9, 2013

Great! Glad it arrived at last! : )

And thanks again for grabbing a copy. : >

    22. AliSaenz on September 9, 2013

Yay! Got home today to find my copy in the mail! Looks beautiful, can't wait to sit down and read the story!

    23. Dan Kim Creator on September 3, 2013

Got my book last week (living in Norway), and I'm really happy with the quality of it! Great job Dan! Also, the sardine drinking gentleman cat sketch was perfect. Framing it :D

Just so you know, Earlybird Sketch editions now seem to be arriving in the UK…

The book looks and feels great. Thanks for putting so much effort into this project :)

    32. Stormwaltz on July 30, 2013

Mine was waiting on my desk this morning, and wow is it nice. It "feels" nice too. The size, the weight, the tactile quality of the cover.

      I know, weird. Bibliophile. :)

I'm looking forward to digging in to it tonight.

    33. Dan Kim Creator on July 30, 2013

      Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the book~ : >

Awesome, glad you're satisfied. That Cupcake card was fun to make, too. : >

    34. soeyoung kim on July 30, 2013

That's fine by me, I was just making sure I wasn't missing anything. I'm in love with your book and 120% satisfied with all of the nice goodies we got as bonus, (especially the cupcake membership card and bookmark!) so no worries. Thanks, Dan!

    35. Timothy Lincolne on July 30, 2013

Came home from vacation to find the book waiting for me. Almost done reading it. Great Job!!!

    36. Dan Kim Creator on July 30, 2013

      Hi, Soeyoung!

Ah, yeah, about those stickers -- they just looked so tacky compared to the nice material in the book that I just left them out. It seemed like it was more of a downgrade than an upgrade. Sometimes ideas just don't work out, I guess... : <

On the plus side, all books did indeed get materials upgrades (linen, better paper, etc.)

    37. soeyoung kim on July 30, 2013

Hey Dan! I received the book yesterday, and it's just as great as I imagined it. Thanks!
There's just one thing I'm having trouble with, where is the 20K stretch goal reward? I can't find it. :<

    38. Dan Kim Creator on July 27, 2013

Great! Glad it arrived safely! : >

      ... now to complete these additional digital goods... ;w;

    39. Jasper on July 27, 2013

got mine! can't wait to read it~ TYTY!! :D

    40. Kartik Gupta on July 19, 2013

      Thanks Dan for an update.

    41. Dan Kim Creator on July 13, 2013

I'm getting tweets and messages from people who are starting to get their books now -- seems like they're finally starting to arrive. : )

The books were sent out in waves over a couple weeks so there could be at least that much variation in arrival times... sorry I can't be more specific than that. If I do another project like this I'll make sure to have better bookkeeping. : (

    42. Spencer Nelson on July 13, 2013

At what point should I expect my nonleather hardcover to arrive? I'm looking forward to reading it in print! I live in North Carolina.

    43. Dan Kim Creator on July 10, 2013

International orders may vary according to location and the speediness of your customs agency -- they've all been sent out via surface mail, so it could be 3 weeks or it could be 7.

I'd have sent it by airmail, but that would cost about $40 - $60 per book, which just can't be done. : (

    44. Kartik Gupta on July 10, 2013

Hi, when to expect my international shipment [HARDCOVER EDITION] ?

Great! Glad you got it! : >
I hope you think it was worth the wait. : >

    47. Brendan Hong on July 8, 2013

I got my book today. Looks great. Love the matte feel of the slipcase, but I love just the look and feel of the actually hardcover book more.

    48. TheChosenOne on June 25, 2013

Any chance you can have some pics/short movie of the leather books process and all? Even just a little.

    49. Ryan Bellward on June 22, 2013

Haha i'm only messing with you Dan. I'm excited to get anything you produce, especially if its bound in leather :3

From your most recent update they sound so fresh it defies words. You really weren't joking when you said they were going to be hand-bound.

I'll be pleased even if the pages are upside down.

    50. Dan Kim Creator on June 20, 2013

Man, I hope these live up to expectations.
