The band just recorded a flamenco jazz project (New Origins / Chicago, Barcelona Connections) that is a result of my time spent living and performing in Spain the past several years. It's mixed, mastered, and almost ready for duplication. All we need now is the last push to get it duplicated and publicized. We recorded our first CD in 2007 and never could really get it off the ground. This time we would like to have a more direct marketing approach and really focus on press and online promotion. Basically, the project is half-complete and we're humbly asking for assistance to finish it and make it something special. Initially, the project was funded by a $2,500 grant from the Illinois Arts Council, but that only covered recording and editing costs in addition to the graphic design. With any luck, we can finish this project without breaking the bank.
Of the 9 songs recorded, 4 are original compositions. The songs include a bulerías, solea por bulerías, tangos, tanguillos, rumba, and a sevillana (all types of flamenco songs) as well as a flamenco pop song and a swing ballad. Overall, it's a jazz recording but it relies heavily on flamenco rhythms and traditions. I feel the recording is a great representation of the flamenco jazz genre because it features:
an arrangement by Chano Domínguez of a Paco de Lucía song (adapted for the band)
a Rumba by Perico Sambeat
an arrangement of Romance Anonimo (classic flamenco guitar song)
a flamenco arrangement of Poinciana
an arrangement of a song by Ojos de Brujo (flamenco pop group)...
and 3 original compositions that blend the two styles (jazz and flamenco) with 1 original song more in the jazz tradition.
We've teamed up with Kickstarter.com, an incredible and unique service for independent artists. Through Kickstarter, artists can finance their projects through donations from friends, fans, family, and anyone else who catches the buzz. And in return, you get something very cool for your donation. The more you donate, the cooler and more elaborate your gift will be.
If the fundraising goal is not met, then your money is not spent because the project is a wash. All contributions count only when the goal is met.
WHERE THE MONEY'S GOING:
$1000 - duplication
$2500 - press and online promotion.
Thanks in advance for your support!
