Steam ver. Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~ Update

Posted by Dies irae World Emanation Project (Creator)

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your understanding in the last update; we will try to communicate with everyone better from now on.

This update concerns the Steam version of Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~, specifically the following points:

  • Problem with not being able to play the game offline
  • Bug with the movie volume not adjusting with the master volume setting
  • Fixing a part of a scene

However, this upcoming update will not include the solutions for those problems. To explain, if we change the scenario data and coding in the current game system, it will delete past saving data.

Because of this, we are currently working on a new game system that will prevent any loss of data when implementing these bug fixes. We will release an update for this in mid-April.

So please keep an eye out for the next update!

Again, thank you very much for your understanding and patience.

When can we expect to get the physical rewards? I'm moving out of the country very soon, and it will no doubt complicate things for me. I need to find an alternate address for you to deliver to.

On another note, will the update or the HD version contain an updated version of the script? The current version of the game on Steam has dozens of misspellings and typos, and the translators stated that they'd submitted newer, fixed revisions of the script.

Yeah, if your engine is coded in such a way that any sort of patch or bugfix invalidates older saves, that's a pretty fatal flaw. Unless you're saving raw memory values instead of tying those values to variables, I can't even see why this would be an issue. Furthermore, the Steam DRM shouldn't even be tied that deeply into the engine; are saves between the Steam and MangaGamer versions of Amantes Amentes entirely incompatible, then?

Depending on the engine, some small, unrelated changes can indeed affect a game to the point of rendering saves useless, because the structure of the internal data has changed.
Usually, these engines require the games to be tested (like, really) before releasing them. But that does not mean this particular game hasn't been tested. Sometimes, you find a bug late after release. Sh!t happens.

It seems strange that your save file format is so tightly coupled to features entirely unrelated to progress or choices players have made.

I like that you’re planning to update your underlying system to support fixes without erasing save data, but it also feels like this should’ve been baked into the design from the beginning. All software needs updates from time to time because all software has bugs

Nobody can change the past, but I hope your experience with Dies irae will help to ensure that it’ll be easier to add updates to other games you create in the future :)
