We are SO excited that we reached our goal! Any additional funds we raise over $6140 will be used to help pay for our travel expenses for our upcoming Trios for Two concert tour. We have concerts in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Tennessee between September-November 2016.
From Molly and Danny…
In 2011, we launched Trios for Two, commissioning several composers to write “trios” for viola, piano, and percussion to be played by the two of us. We’ve been performing this music since then (including a recent concert at REDCAT in downtown Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall) and earlier this year we recorded an album of this unique repertoire. Now we’re preparing to release the album on Innova Recordings, a record label with this very apt motto: “The different drummer…is on our label.” It’s a match made in heaven!
We recorded the album at CalArts in January and May 2016 and are now in the process of doing final edits and mixing. (We’re so lucky to be working with our good friend and colleague Clay Chaplin, who recorded, edited, and mixed the album.) Soon we’ll be mastering, the final step in production. Meanwhile, we’re designing the CD artwork, writing liner notes, and otherwise preparing for the CD release. Our partner, Innova Recordings, is a non-profit record label that champions contemporary classical music. Through Innova, the Trios for Two album will have international distribution through Naxos, which is the largest classical music distributor in the world. We’re psyched to be able to share this music with the world!
The album include six world-premiere recordings by composers Karl Blench, Casey Cangelosi, Daniel Corral, Christopher Goddard, Chia-Yu Hsu, and Ingrid Lee. We’ve really enjoyed performing and recording each of these pieces, all of which take the Trios for Two concept and run wild with it in different and exciting ways! The funds raised through Kickstarter will go towards manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of the CD (including digital distribution to iTunes, etc.)

Inquiring minds want to know...
Who are Molly and Danny?
We are two professional musicians who first met 20 years ago when we were students at a summer music camp. Who would have guessed that all these years later we’d not only be such good friends, but we’d have the opportunity to perform and record such crazy music?
Who are the composers?
This project would not be possible without the inventive, open-minded, and dedicated composers who were willing to write for our unique instrumentation. They are our rockstars! You can learn more about each of them by clicking the links below:
Who is Innova Recordings?
Innova is a loyal partner to the indie classical scene. Learn more about Innova here: http://www.innova.mu/. Go browse their catalogue while you're over there - they have some amazing CDs up right now! They’re awesome and fair in their pricing, but we, as the artists, need to hold up our end of the deal, too. That’s where our backers come in!
What are the rewards?
We know our backers are generous and we want to acknowledge that. Check out the side bar for our rewards (including early-bird rewards). We have digital downloads, CDs, private lessons, custom miniature compositions written just for you, and backer credit in our liner notes.

Risks and challenges
Danny has acted as Executive Producer on five commercially released CDs since 2009, including "Fast Jump" on Innova Recordings. So he's very experienced with navigating all the steps in the process. And since he's worked with Innova before, there's an ease of process that comes from an established rapport with the label.
We've already recorded the Trios for Two album, and are currently working with our engineer (the amazing Clay Chaplin) to edit and mix the tracks. That process is already underway, and it's going smoothly and efficiently. We have a mastering engineer standing by. The recording, editing, mixing, and mastering have already been paid for, through a grant from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (where Molly teaches).
The project has been approved by Innova Recordings, an established label with a proven track record. We're already working on album artwork, liner notes, and graphic design for the CD (which will be done in-house at Innova). We fully expect to have CDs in hand by the fall, with an expected release date in the first quarter of 2017.
The only possible challenges we may encounter would be delays in these various steps, based on the busy schedules of all the different people involved–or possible delays with the schedule of releases at Innova. At the latest, we can reasonably expect to have CDs in hand by the end of 2016, with an official release date no later than spring/summer 2017. In short, the risks of our project have been anticipated and carefully managed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
