Please help me fund my journalistic study abroad to Greece to report, record and document Greek folk music and the lives of a failing economy.
This summer I will be in Europe for a Journalism study abroad in France for most of May. I'm graduating from UGA soon, and I want to use this time and this opportunity to gain more journalistic experience in ways I wouldn't be able to at home. Since I'll be gone for the start of internship season, I've decided to turn this trip into my own internship. I want to use a combination of media (video, audio, writing) to explore Greek folk music, as well as the struggles and changes of people living in an economy that's changing the face of the country. My main interest lies in music journalism, but I want to go deeply into the personal lives of people affected by the changes. Culture follows history, which is why I think that while these two subjects are different, they can only influence each other. I plan to report on them separately and eventually marry them to show how cultural attitude and music correlate.
This is my last summer as a college student, and before I face the job world, I want to make something that shows my dedication to music, travel, media and intelligent journalism. In order to do this, I need documenting equipment: a small, handheld camcorder, an audio recorder, and possibly a used camera. A multi-media package is an effective and in-depth avenue to present a broad idea and will show my skills applied to the kind of work I'd like to pursue in a career. The result will be cohesive articles, videos, and musical recordings that I can submit for publication or show to potential employers.
I'm confident in my ability to travel smartly, complete the objectives, and thoughtfully assemble a journalistic product that shows a unique take on what I find. I ask for your financial help for this project because I am committed to its completion and excellence. Your contributions will fund travel, lodging and food expenses, and recording equipment. As a tangible thank you for your help and confidence, you will receive rewards for your contribution. Among the rewards are copies of what I produce and access to the finished product so that you can see what you help me create.
I'm so excited about this opportunity and I appreciate any help or support you can offer. I will keep you all updated - you will be the VIPs on the trip with me. Thanks so much.
