THE CROWDFUNDING WAVE

It's no secret that crowdfunding is now a fast-growing movement, but did you know its success goes back to the 2008 global financial crisis? A report by the World Bank, issued in 2014, credits the crisis as one of the main catalysts to spur interest in to crowdfunding, as more traditional forms of funding to set up new businesses became risk averse and harder to achieve.

Since then, the numbers have spoken for themselves. Until now, most people have focused on the figures for specific projects (like the $10.2 million Pebble raised on Kickstarter) or the price tag that some of those projects have commanded in their post-crowdfunding days—i.e. Facebook's $2 billion acquisition of Oculus.

From its early days crowdfunding has touched many lives. Now accepted as a way of raising funds to start and grow businesses. This revolutionary funding wave is changing the future of finance and I am sure the best is yet to come.

I started writing Crowdfunding Campaigner Magazine as a guide and introduction to the crowdfunding market. Published online as a monthly issue the magazine reflects how crowdfunding is impacting our lives on a global scale. A way of sharing thought leadership while demonstrating what works well based on experience and expertise.

The magazine reviews successful campaigns to see what works well. Shares ideas in a way that fits targeted budgets and target groups. It is easier to raise money for an idea that touches many people.

As a tech start-up myself I know of the need for capital and getting it is a very challenging task. Easier said than done, but many start-ups are unable to sell their value proposition to investors. With investors being few, the challenge becomes larger in terms of how to get that share of the pie from the limited pool. Hence, my passion for crowdfunding and how it has reduced the risk and fears of such a daunting task.

Crowdfunding is now accepted as a way for start-ups to raise money and bring awareness to their projects, which would otherwise have gone unfunded. Now, big brand companies are using the concept to help them test new products and gain awareness before releasing them. With this surge in crowdfunding by the end of 2014, there were over 1,000 platforms to choose from, and that number has continued to rise.

With insightful content written by market leaders and examples of what works well the magazine targets spreading the word of crowdfunding worldwide.

It’s a bit ironic a crowdfunding magazine seeking crowdfunding. The reality is when discussing budgets and the future the comment is “why don’t you crowdfund the magazine?”. So, I believe it is that time to reach out to our existing and prospective readers to ask for their support in pursuing my dream and passion.

Having financed the launch of the magazine it is now time to take the magazine to another level and with your support we can build on our online presence. The need for an online presence cannot be overstated.
