About

Gameplay & Rules

Welcome to Baltimear’s War! You are a member of one of the 6 elite empires still in strength after the great wars of 2941 which led to the annihilation of most beings in the universe. The Great War was started by Lord Baltimear who realized the power held within Urilium crystals, and that if unlocked, could yield an artificial strength empowering the holder to be near unstoppable. Knowing this power, Lord Baltimear eradicated Urilium crystals from all sectors of the universe except his own personal mine on the planet Gax. Here he held onto his power in a mission for supreme domination over all other empires. This time of domination has come to be known as Baltimear’s War!

However… time has passed and Lord Baltimear has weakened in his older age. Now is the time for the final elite 6 empires to make their move and steal back the Urilium crystals from the now weakened empire of Baltimear. Your mission is to either be the last standing empire or to reach the goal of collecting 20 Urilium crystals first; thus powering the Nebular 2 nuclear device and destroying all other empires. So grab some friends, pick your empire and prepare for the final war to end all wars at the edge of our universe in Baltimear’s War!

Gameplay:

1. Players draw 1 card from the main deck every turn at the start of their turn. Players can have no more than 2 cards in their hand at one time. If you have 2 cards you must discard 1 before drawing 1 or pass on drawing a card that turn.

2. The 1st player rolls the dice up to 3 times keeping the rolls they want.

3. At end of the rolls the player will resolve the dice and can declare actions in any order they wish. If attacking you can only attack one person per turn and they must be within “Distance” (see other gameplay information) to attack. There are cards that allow you to attack more people at one time. Spend 1 green bead to perform an attack.

4. After resolving the dice you can play cards even before entering Baltimear’s mine. If you purchase a character card that is permanent you can play it right away.

5. Since no one is in Baltimear’s mine the player can choose to enter. Only 1 player can be in the mine at any one time for a 2-3 player game and 2 for a 4 + players game.

6. If entering the mine you must roll all the dice 3 X’s. All attacks count against you and you must deduct from your health/shields as this represents Lord Baltimear attacking. You get 2 Urilium crystals for entering the mine. Each turn you advance one stage in the mine and receive 2 Urilium crystals each time. If you make it all the way around back to stage 1, and choose to stay, you receive 4 Urilium crystals. You must now roll the dice 3 X’s every turn and keep all attacks as counting against you. You still only get 2 Urilium crystals each turn you advance and if you make it back to stage 1 again you get 4 Urilium crystals (repeating the process).

7. Play then advances to the next player and continues as outlined above. You can purchase torpedoes (see additional gameplay information for this process) at the end of your turn. You can spend Energon after you resolve the dice rolls. You can purchase character cards (see additional gameplay information for this process) at the end of your turn. One-time cards and permanent cards can be played and are effective right away once played.

Main Card Deck:

1. You start the game with 1 card from the main card deck. Do not show this to other players unless you play the card.

2. At the start of your turn you draw 1 new card from the Main Deck. You cannot have more than 2 cards in your hand, and you cannot play cards until after you roll the dice.

3. Permanent cards stay out and can be re-used.

4. One-time cards are only used one-time and then put in the discard pile. Note, some one-time cards can be played on an opponent’s turn such as if they attack you and you have cloaking.

5. If you go through the entire card deck you reshuffle the discard pile and make the deck new.

6. When you have a card to draw from discard pile you only get the discard pile available on your turn. If the pile is reshuffled to make the deck new then there is limited to no discard pile.

7. You can play as many of these cards as you would like on your turn.

8. The cards tell you what you can do.

Character Card Deck:

1. You get one of these cards by paying 4 Energon.

2. If you use a One-time card you place it at the bottom of the character card pile.

3. You can play as many of these cards as you would like on your turn.

4. The cards tell you what you can do.

Other Gameplay Information:

1. “Distance” – You can attack people in many different ways in this game. First, you must always have a torpedo to use in order to attack. Second, the person must be within range (“Distance”) to attack. All players who are in Baltimear’s mine are considered within “Distance” to attack no matter what specialty cards they have in play. The player sitting next to you on either side is considered 1 away from you distance wise. If a player is 2 away from you that means there is another player between you and that person on either side. You must be within range (a distance of 1) in order to attack an opponent. Some cards will allow people to move further away, be hidden or brought within range.

2. Torpedoes – You must have a torpedo in order to attack. 1 torpedo allows you to carry out whatever amount of attacks you rolled on a turn. Torpedoes can be purchased at the end of your turn for 4 Energon each. There are some cards that will give you these for free or reduce the cost. Torpedoes can only hit 1 target unless a card says differently or if opponents are in Baltimear’s mine. All players in Baltimear’s mine are attacked equally when an attack from the outside is carried out.

3. Character Cards – These cards are designed specifically for each of the 6 elite empires. They can be purchased at the end of your turn for 4 Energon. An alternate way to play the game is to mix these cards up and deal them out randomly so no player knows what they are getting.

4. Baltimear’s Mine – You cannot heal/repair shields and you cannot attack when in the mine. You can only roll for Energon or Urilium and you receive the given Urilium per turn as well. You can choose to leave the mine if attacked even if it is not your turn. You can choose to leave the mine on your turn at the beginning of your turn and you do not receive Urilium for that round. If someone outside the mine attacks all players in the mine take damage. No more than one player can be in the mine at once in a 2-3 player game and two players can be in the mine at once in a 4 + players game. If someone leaves when you attack you can choose to enter the mine. If the mine is open for another player to enter on your turn you can enter the mine at the beginning of your turn.

5. Dice Rolls & Combinations – You can roll the dice up to 3 times. You must keep whatever is on your final roll. The dice have different sides to include: Attack, Health/Shield Repair, Energon, Urilium crystal 1 (1), Urilium crystal 2 (2) and Urilium crystal 3 (3). If you roll 3 of a kind of 1, 2 or 3 you get 1 Urilium crystal. If you roll any 1, 2 or 3 the same as the original 3 of a kind you get a bonus Urilium crystal for each additional like number. The rest are equal to the item/action (i.e. 3 attacks does 3 damage, 3 health/shields recovers 3 health/shields, 3 Energon get you 3 Energon).

6. Nuclear Option Card – “From Baltimear’s Abyss I Stab at Thee” – These are dealt randomly at the beginning of the game. Each player has this Nuclear Option card to use at any time during the game at the end of their turn. What you do if you use it is declare the player you are using it on. Then you guess what their Nuclear Option number is (i.e. 1-6 and not the number on your card). If you guess right that player is destroyed and out of the game. You then reshuffle all 6 cards and deal back out randomly to the remaining players. If you guess wrong then you are destroyed and out of the game. You then reshuffle all 6 cards and deal back out randomly to the remaining players.

Risks and challenges

The challenges I face are that of a first time game developer. That is why I have researched the manufacturing costs and who to manufacture with to ensure that I am able to execute the project upon funding. I will be completing this project through the Chicago Game & Card company and I have received quotes for the game.
