The Stylish Feminine Storage Solution
On The Dot is a decorative dispenser for feminine hygiene products. With On The Dot, women can say goodbye to unsightly tampon boxes and pad bags. Plus, On The Dot is designed to be kept in your bathroom so everything you need is discreetly within reach, which fits our name and motto: On The Dot The Perfect Spot.
Designed by Women for Women
My daughter created a box with a handle and sliding inner compartment, filled it with tampons and pads, and placed it next to the toilet. When I pulled it open I was inspired and felt liberated. It was time to develop this idea! With the help of a creative team of women, a beautiful dispenser was designed for all women to use at home, work, and everywhere women use bathrooms.
Three years ago, I became passionately committed to changing the tradition of hiding and stashing feminine hygiene products. I began collaborating with Yvonne, a designer and 3-D graphic artist to create this unique and beautiful dispenser for women. Along the way, we solicited consults from box manufacturers, master printers, 3-D designers and local artists. Inspiration for On The Dot came from this simple, brown cardboard box.
Prototype number one addressed the following functions:
- Sliding inner compartment for discreet storage.
- Upper drawer with front panel to prevent products from spilling out.
- Lower compartment for storage of tampon boxes, pad bags or toilet paper.
Our first design problem was with the side panels of the upper drawer. The side panels used a ‘notch’ to prevent the upper drawer from opening too far. This design proved unworkable because of wear on the ‘notch,’ causing the products to spill out.
We found a simple yet elegant solution inspired by older, decorative boxes. A premeasured ribbon limited the opening angle of the drawer, preventing spillage and adding a decorative, feminine look.
On The Dot is designed specifically for feminine hygiene products. The inner compartment accommodates all sizes of tampons and pads. The first prototype was too large. After trimming the prototype’s dimensions, we now have a size that fits easily in any bathroom location.
Quality and durability was a priority. Early prototypes were made from a variety of cardboards and over time, would tear and lose their shape. We found a high strength, recycled chipboard to be the answer for durability, and proved to be a good surface for the application of our designer graphics.
By adding a frosted plastic base, the dispenser is protected from bathroom surfaces. The On The Dot logo was added to the base, giving it a finished look.
Designing the handle was also a challenge. The dispenser’s handle required a material that would stand up to long term use and have a beautiful and unique design. After many attempts to find a solution for a durable handle, we found that gluing a plastic ring to the shaft of the handle provided the strength and stability the dispenser needed. We designed a unique, feminine inspired butterfly shape handle and consulted with a mold maker to create the finished handle.
Lastly, designer colors and graphics were added that appeal to women of all ages.
Accessibility at Your Fingertips. Period.
On The Dot was designed to add dignity and style to our "special" time of the month. We created a unique and functional dispenser that is essential to any bathroom women use.
Don't Let Your Period Cramp Your Style
Every woman has her own style and personality. At On The Dot, we want to offer women a choice of designs and colors. Our plan is to keep the product dynamic and contemporary, featuring new graphic artists each year.

Please support our campaign!
Our goal for this campaign is to raise funds to produce 2,000 On The Dots.
We have self-funded a limited-edition marketing run, but need your support to go into production. Our Kickstarter goal of $6,000 added to our own investment will cover the cost of our first production run.
Please support our Kickstarter campaign and help us bring On The Dot to retailers where you live.
Risks and challenges
Over the past few years we have successfully self funded the development of On The Dot prototypes, marketing line, e-commerce website, product photography, focus groups, Kickstarter video and more. We have an initial marketing run to fulfill the limited quantity orders. Orders beyond this number will be completed with Kickstarter funding in approximately 10 weeks.
Potential challenges include errors in the production process, damages incurred from shipping or delays in manufacturing. Many of these concerns have been resolved with the initial marketing run. The good news is the manufacturers created our first On The Dots to our specifications and very few were damaged in transit. Our business plan is to keep a reasonable volume of products in our warehouse to avoid delays.
On The Dot has many unique components requiring multiple steps to assemble. In order to provide a high quality product priced for retail sales we researched and contracted with an overseas box manufacturer, plastic mold developer, color printer, and packaging experts.
Over the past two years we have worked closely with master printer and manufacturing consultant, Joseph Pasky of Cathay Consulting Services Co. Ltd. Joe has over 30 years experience in print and color management and eight years experience as an overseas manufacturing consultant. Over the course of the two year process of developing our first prototypes, we made many modifications to arrive at an On The Dot that looks good and works well. Joe has been on site and supervised each step of the process, assuring high quality materials and fair working environments. We have also developed a business plan and relationship with other manufacturers in the event that our production needs exceed the capacity of our present manufacturer.
Finally, we have an established relationship with a customs broker and freight service. Our first marketing run arrived on time and quickly cleared customs.
We have contracted with Fulfillment Corporation of America, with headquarters in nearby Beaverton, Oregon and warehouses strategically located across the United States, to provide the warehousing, packaging and shipping of the initial marketing run. We have an established account and have their fulfillment software integrated into our website. They have experience fulfilling Kickstarter campaigns and are prepared to ship the limited quantity orders in time for the 2013 holidays.
Thanks for your support. We are eager to move into production, marketing and sales, and hope that soon women will find On The Dot where and when they need one.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
