A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

The Solar Dock is fast approaching prototype stage. The technology will allow us to never again use a wall plug to charge a portable electronic device. If you are interested in todays hot challenges; 'how do we reduce fossil fuel use?' 'How can we all access solar at affordable prices?' Look no further!
The solar dock uses the sun that streams into your back yard to charge your electronic gizmos in your home or office. Continually charging the solar dock will continuously charge your devices if they are plugged in. Each device will take around 15 to 40 minutes to charge depending if its a phone, iPad, laptop, camera battery and depending on what power your solar panel is. But with a 150W solar panel you can charge 30+ devices every day. This is ideal for companies and large households who use lots of portable electronic devices.
Go portable too by removing one of the two portable chargers with enough power to charge your phone and laptop all day long (portable battery shown in picture).
The above inner workings show the main battery pack which is powerful enough to charge your laptop and 6 phones plus other devices continuously while the sun shines in your back yard. Overnight it will charge multiple devices to 100% using its stored power in series with the portable batteries.

The electronic design company based here in the UK provided the PCB and firmware needed to run the device. This task took a great deal of time and the layout is shown in the gallery of images. The Solar Dock will last up to 10 years depending on intensity of use. We estimate that when used at maximum intensity it has at least a 6 year useful life span. Your Solar Dock will change your life and change the way you view charging forever.
We aim to make sure we can deliver this product to you. I have worked with some great companies based in UK, EU and USA to make sure this project becomes a reality. The companies who have collaborated on this project are reliable with proven track records so I know they can deliver this product to you once the necessary certification has been achieved. Certification is also guaranteed because the components of the product are already tried and tested. the internal workings are complete but the outer casing designs are not. We went through a number of variations on design but realised that you needed to be able to pop out the portable batteries quickly as well as stand electronic devices on the top tray of the solar dock. I have included a few of the early designs in the gallery. The final design is shown in the gallery also.
The top tray will nestle your electronic device and the charging cables will store below the tray out of sight. Charge cables will pop up between the opening on the top tray and connect with the electronic device that is charging.
The main battery pack is located at the base of the solar dock for stability and the portables slide into the front of the solar dock. Once the portables are connected they add to the overall charge capacity of the solar dock giving you nearly 200Wh of charge capacity and continuous charge capacity during daylight hours.

Risks and challenges
Professional designers and experienced and proven manufacturers are being used on this project so the risks are minimal. Component parts are being bespoke made or bought in to enable us to guarantee delivery and performance of the product. We plan a usable life span of up to 10 years (normal use) before a replacement product will be required.
We did re-design the workings of the Solar Dock once we realised it had to be part of the internet of things. We were not satisfied with the performance of the LED touch screen we had made and so upgraded the product to allow you to interact with it and manage your charging performance using your phone and via wifi.
This significant change took extra funds and time to complete and we were delayed by around 6 months. The funding so far has been committed by me personally and I have invested around £80,000 getting the product to this stage. We aim to use these funds to speed up the production and testing so we can make this product available to you all by Autumn 2017.
The USA is a difficult market to crack and we have been working with Chicago based law firm to make sure we are doing things right in order to get off to a good start with US customers.
We aim to assemble in Europe and/or the USA. As we all know these countries have proper regulation levels and guarantees so you can be assured your product is reliable and performs.
The challenge here is to make this product reliable and affordable for mass use. Only with mass use will we be able to significantly reduce the fossil fuel use in towns and cities. For every 10 million solar docks in use we estimate that demand on the electrical grid will reduce by 4.2 Billion KWh each year.
We believe the best way to make this product affordable is to sell it on a lease purchase over 24 months. An initial deposit is paid and then a weekly direct debit paid for 24 months after which you go on using it or upgrade to the latest version and start a new 24 month contract. You will be going solar for a minimal price of around £1.43 per day. At this price we should all do it and save the planet!
