About this project
My name is Matt and I run the live video website ACID MARSHMALLOW www.acid-marshmallow.com
I started it a year ago in New York and collected over 300 live sets from important yet often overlooked musicians and sound artists. After losing my desk job in New York I made the move to Chicago and started up where I left off. Since February of this year I have recorded close to 250 sets and have no plans of slowing down. In most cases I video complete live sets so that those who were unable to attend can witness what they missed.
Live music is important to me and I think it is important to document. Every night music sounds great! ...and every night live performances are different and special! The music I tend to video (unjustly) has limited commercial appeal at times and I have received no outside funding of any sort. I have begun to realize that the prosumer cameras currently available are far superior to the equipment I am currently using. While my visual aesthetic is lo-fi, I know that the musicians I am recording and my site's viewers are missing out. The time has come for me to upgrade my camera and microphone for the sake of ACID MARSHMALLOW.
My goal is simple and straight forward and I am certain that it will improve the quality of my site and the videos I capture by a significant margin. Any extra money afterward will go toward making some stickers and buttons for the site.
I plan to raise funds in a few other ways and am planning an ACID MARSHMALLOW benefit show and saving every penny I have to make this new camera & mic a reality for 2010.
Acid Marshmallow is and always will be free for everyone to enjoy. Please check out the site and be sure to check the Archive ( http://acid-marshmallow.com/index.php... ) for past shows in both Chicago and New York. If you know of any interesting musicians you think I should check out playing in Chicago don't hesitate to clue me in.
Even if you can't pledge any money (I know as well as anyone that times are rough) please spread the word about what my site is doing. There is so much great music that needs to be heard and it is a shame so many exciting artists get overlooked.
