TRAK is a patent pending, titanium knife designed to be used by anyone, anywhere, regardless of conditions or environment. TRAK was originally created to be used as a back up dive knife for commercial divers entangled in fishing lines. TRAK has been adopted by runners due to it being lightweight, easy to carry, and rust proof. The new TRAK was born.
At less than 1/2 oz, TRAK is the perfect choice for individuals with an active lifestyle that need an ultra lightweight knife. TRAK is the perfect knife for those running alone, biking, hiking, camping or just walking your dog. Regardless of the environment, TRAK can handle it! We found that TRAK not only came in handy in a marine environment, but found ourselves wearing it on our daily runs. With TRAK, you're never alone.
What makes TRAK unique is that you place your index finger in the retention hole and wrap you thumb and middle finger around it. This makes dropping or having TRAK slip out of your hands virtually impossible. Easy to wear around your neck with our neck sheath set-up, carry it on your keys, or zip tie it to your gear, purse, or backpack.
Simply throw it around your neck for a run or on a key ring for everyday tasks.
TRAK is made from military grade titanium (6AL4V), which is the same material used in professional touring bikes, aviation, race cars, and even the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The benefit of titanium is it's ultra-light weight, twice as strong as its equivalent in steel, rust proof, corrosion proof, and non ferrous (no iron). Titanium is even used in surgical implants for its harmonizing factor with the human body.
Exposed to the elements (salt water, sweat, high humidity, dirt, etc), TRAK will not rust or corrode.
TRAK is 100% hand crafted in the USA. The titanium is sourced in California and then sent to Texas where the blanks are cut out on a waterjet machine. The raw TRAK cut-outs are then sent to our shop in Boston, MA where the cutting edge is hand ground. From there we apply the following finishing treatments: stonewashing, bead blasting, color anodizing, final edge sharpening, tungsten carbide welded to edges, and hand stamped logos.
We then move on to the Kydex thermoplastic retention sheaths, which are also made one at a time, by hand.
SM-100 has all the best qualities of both titanium and powdered metallurgic stainless knife steels. Best part is that It's not anymore difficult to sharpen than your standard knife steel, but hardness ratings can go as high as Rc 60-61, which means greater edge retention. Limited to only 55 pieces. More will not be made due to the high cost of material.

Z-FiNit (Zapp Fine Grain Nitrogen Steel) Limited Edition TRAK.
Your requests to add another limited edition TRAK have not been ignored. We've been searching for something unique and are pleased to announce our latest limited edition TRAK. The TRAK Z-FiNit.
Z-FiNit super steel is a high nitrogen, alloyed tool steel (similar to Spyderco's H1 Steel). Also known as Cronidur 30, but with the addition of LC200N, which is used in many knives, as well as, NASA for its excellent wear resistance in ball bearings. It makes an excellent knife material for its corrosion resistance, hardness, and overall ease of sharpening. Z-FiNit will be hardened to 59HRC for TRAK.
Z-FiNit has been used by many of the top knife makers around the world and has proven to make an excellent knife steel for its ability to withstand corrosion better than most knife steels, as well as, its edge holding characteristics. Similar to AEB-L, but with a much higher corrosion resistance. Unlike titanium or SM-100, Z-FiNit is ferrous, magnetic, and not 100% rust or corrosion proof, however it does have greater corrosion resistance than a typical knife steel. Z-FiNit makes an excellent choice for those that wanted a stainless steel TRAK with, but with higher corrosion resistance.

TRAK will be offered in two different sizes. We understand that one tool cannot fit everyone so we're offering two sizes: Medium and Large. Please see below for specs.
TRAK is designed to fit your hand like a glove. When you insert your index finger into the retention hole, the remaining fingers wrap around TRAK comfortably in their own finger holds. This gives you a very secure, no slip grip. As long as you keep your hand closed, TRAK will not fall out!

Helpful Fit Tip: You can measure the diameter of your index finger with a string just above your knuckle to determine best fit.
TRAK will be available in: Gold, Green, Natural, Bronze, Blue, and Purple
TRAK comes with a thermoplastic Kydex sheath. This material is heated until soft and pliable and then press formed around TRAK. Once cooled, Kydex will fit your knife like a custom made glove. Kydex is waterproof, lightweight, retains its shape better than leather, and can last a lifetime. The retention sheath has two eyelets at top, which allows you to attach a neck lanyard or key ring. You can also attach TRAK to a backpack, runner's arm band, belt, or anywhere you need it handy.

Important:
At the end of this campaign, you will receive via email, backer surveys, which will ask you for your color choice, size choice, finish, etc. You do not need to do this now. Just select your desired reward tier and we will collect all the other pertinent info from the surveys.
If ordering multiple rewards simply multiply the reward price by the number of items you would like. Example: 1 TRAK is $29, 2 TRAK's $58, etc, etc. Want color anodizing? Simply add that to your reward total as well.
Please Note:
The TRAK knives shown in the video are only prototypes. We experimented with different sized bevels, anodizing techniques, and finishes. The final production version will be very close to the first picture at the top of this page. Some prototypes seen in the video and pictures were used for reference or to demonstrate colors, sheath fit, function, and size comparison only.

We feel that the risks associated with this project are very minimal and fairly low. We've put together a very experienced team and have already gone through the build process with our current prototypes. Our team member and consultant on this project, Flavio Pellegrino, has had two previously successful campaigns here on Kickstarter.
We have used our suppliers in the past and have established relationships with them. The only foreseen challenge we see is if the project happens to go viral and we receive more orders than anticipated. Just in case, we have allotted extra time in the project timeline to allow for this. We have done our homework and do not anticipate any other risks or challenges.
