About this project
The House of Grace is a short documentary following Ben and Maria Medrea and their life and work setting up Casa Harului – meaning the House of Grace.
Casa Harului is a center and retreat for children with disabilities and their families in Romania. Set in up 1995 after Ben and Maria returned to Romania after living in England for four years.
Ben and Maria provide a safe, simulating place for the children with a wide range of disabilities to come and enjoy activities and specialist care such as physiotherapy. The Parents also get help, advice and support on how to help their children. Volunteers staff it; some local and others are from the UK, who come over in groups to help run the activities.
The film will be centered on Ben and Maria talking about their life and work, supported by interviews with volunteers, people in the UK and possibly children and parents who use the center.
The shooting dates for the film are the 1st – 8th April. We will be staying and filming at the center for the week.
What We Need From You
We will use your pledges to hire extra equipment such as radio mics, lighting equipment and extra lenses to make the finished film look and sound as good as possible.
If you can donate we will be extremely grateful however, if you can’t you can still help us enormously by sending the link and spreading the word about the film to as many people as possible.
The Future Of The Film
We have very high hopes for this documentary, we are planning on sending it to a number of film festivals and screening though this year and next. After the film has completed its festival tour it will be made available to watch freely online.
You can keep updated with the film on our Facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/HouseOfGraceDocumentary
Risks and challenges
As with any project we will be subject to the usual problems - bad weather, technical issues and transport. We are prepared for all eventualities, bad weather = we can film inside, technical hitch = we have spares for all our equipment, and the footage will be backed up then backed up again to be doubly sure.
The location and the contributors have already been secured and permission granted. Flights and transport are also already booked and organised, we will be traveling with a group of volunteers from the UK so shouldn't get lost.
