Reward Shipping Progress
Hi Kickstarter Backers!
Most of the reward packages are in the mail and on the way to you! Many have already arrived! All rewards are being sent Airmail / Priority. I am doing my best to get everything out so it arrives by Christmas – tough during the holiday shipping rush. I have dedicated many more 10 to 12 hour working days, made over a dozen trips to the post office (in the snow; waiting in long lines), and doubled my postage and shipping budget.
So far, everyone who has seen the cookbook has been super impressed. Positive feedback is flooding in from excited followers, fans, family, and friends all over the world! The first store in Berlin to carry The Lotus and the Artichoke cookbook sold out in only 2 days, and other local stores quickly got the book on their shelves. I've shared the book with other cookbook authors and bloggers: The resulting enthusiasm has been fantastic and extremely promising.

Orders will help with my increased expenses:
Most notably the $12k+ printing and nearly $2k in international shipping! The decision to print 1000 (not 500) copies in full, delicious color with the added recipes and expansions was an expensive but easy decision. The shipping is another story, but I am committed to fulfilling my promises to you, dear backers!
The great weight surprise & other twists:
When the book returned from the printer I was thrilled by the beautiful results – and surprised the book's final weight exceeded original estimates. The expertly-crafted book looks and feels even better than I'd imagined, with a sturdy softbound cover, strong binding, and robust, lightly textured, natural paper pages. Unfortunately, because it weighs just over 500g, it costs 2x as much to mail. Oops. That's a lot when you're mailing hundreds (or thousands!) of books!
I invested the entire 220% Kickstarter project funding to publish and promote an incredible book, get awesome t-shirts and tote bags, plus 4 different artsy stickers -- and to ensure rewards are shipped reliably and efficiently. Stay tuned for updates on how this affects financing the German edition, still planned for March 2013.
If you pledged for more than one book: (e.g. Twin Pack rewards) most of you will get two packages, instead of one. This has to do with the German postal system's illogical pricing scheme and preference for smaller, lighter packages which arrive faster, safer, and more affordable.
I am doing everything possible to ship remaining rewards by Tuesday, December 18th. The majority of these are ready to bring to the post office tomorrow. Properly printing and safely packing the blockprints proved trickier than I expected with a crazy busy to-do list at The Lotus and the Artichoke Headquarters (AKA my studio) – my apologies to affected backers with blockprint rewards. We will see if the postal elves make up for my minor delays and overly perfectionist ways.
*The e-book release has been pushed to December 23. It may be ready sooner, pending final improvements and testing on different devices. I will keep you informed. And get ready, because it's going to blow you away. Just like the printed cookbook.
As always, thank you for your overwhelming, incredible support.
