Less than two weeks left, and a long way to go.

Greetings, once more.

I am very moved and grateful for all your support, and all the encouragement I have received during this fund raising effort. Sadly though, at this point Shadow Rabbit has raised only about 10% of the pledged amount needed to succeed. There are less than 13 days left to fund the project, and if trends continue, we won't make the goal on time.

I am hoping that my current backers will forward links to this project to their friends and contacts, since wide spread exposure is very much needed. The more eyes that see the project, the greater the chances of finding enough pledges.

I have been utilizing Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, personal emails, and various internet forums and message boards to get exposure for Shadow Rabbit. I have been putting in 12 or more hours a day, 7 days a week since the campaign went live. I am still hopeful that many of the seeds of interest I have planted will blossom into new backers in time to help the effort.

Shadow Rabbit now has 193 followers on Twitter, and that seems to be the fastest growing base, even compared to the Facebook Page.

I do know that the dollar amount of the goal concerned some folks that contacted me, as it seems high compared to similar projects. I can only stress that I have done my homework and found that while many comparable projects do successfully reach their funding goals on Kickstarter by asking for much less, that a lot of those projects do not adequately budget for the reality of the costs and fail to produce desired results.

Using the Kickstarter model (and budgeting for the production of appealing rewards) will leave me roughly 50% of the money raised to put to use on the actual project.

As can be seen by the numbers below, approximately only $6,000 - $8,000 will go toward production and living expenses. The rest goes to processing fees (Kickstarter and Amazon take a share), rewards production, and taxes. The funds raised are taxable, and when applying to Amazon Payments (mandatory) one fills out tax information.

Production costs of rewards (with shipping):

  • Soft Cover print edition: $20
  • Hard Cover Print Edition: $35
  • Single sided T-Shirt (front print only): $30
  • Double sided deluxe T-Shirt (front and back printing): $40

I only review this information to assure you all that I have made it my mission to budget only for a project that can be completed with great quality, and while keeping my promises to my backers.

Hopefully the tide will turn and we will see more pledges come in during the home stretch of this thing. Even if I don't make it, I won't be giving up. I have been writing this book for a few years and had hoped to have it published by spring, but if I have to go it alone and struggle until 2014 to release something of quality, then that's what will happen. I won't have something published that my backers can't be proud of, or that I cannot be proud of.

Thank you for all you have done. This can still happen.
