My very first art show is just around the corner and I'm bursting with excitement. As time is running out though, I will really need your help and support to put this together.
It will all happen at The Art Academy's Graduate Show in London this July and I would like to be able to exhibit my work the way I've always dreamed of.
I began taking painting seriously only a couple of years ago and until I started this 1 year course at the Academy I was completely self-taught. Attending this school has been the most rewarding and exciting experience. Literally a dream come true!
I am very passionate and I'm dying to do more, continue studying and most of all producing more works. And this is exactly what I intend to do with any extra money raised here, if you will be so good to allow me to hit and even exceed my goal.
I take everything I do very seriously and as I think of art as something very personal and yet so exposed, I believe it has to have a clear voice and purpose. The artist should try as hard as possible to deliver this message exactly the way he/she wants to and this is why I'm here asking for your help.
The main focus will be on androgyny, the realisation of not feeling in the "right" body and gender identity issues.
I have met a few people in my life who were affected by Gender Dysphoria and, being a gay man myself, I could always relate on some levels to their suffering caused by feeling inadequate, out of place and even not complete in some way.
"The Lost Myth of Androgyny", this is how I've titled the new series I'm working on, it's about a relatable reality where the agony of not feeling in your own skin is the protagonist. In a society where labeling is becoming the twisted norm, we are facing a reality where gender, identity and sexual orientation are becoming more and more fluid.
I want to represent all of this through my work and its ordinary yet unsettling scenarios. Just like the paradox of what now is considered myth and yet once was considered a gift. In a far gone human history people who were different were not only accepted but almost glorified and mystified before judgement, homologation and morality came in the picture. I simply would like to try and weaken people's phobias through the representation of true pain, love and loss.
Oftentimes I personally do not feel at ease within this society and that's exactly what pushed me to explore and delve into this feeling of uneasiness that people live with in this ever-changing and sometimes less and less accepting world.
My project is not only about gender, sexuality and identity; it is also about everyone's transition and anxiety during the journey towards acceptance. Accepting who we are, our limits and our uniqueness can be as much rewarding as distressing. Ultimately it's about loss and rediscovery as we skip through a version of ourselves to another.
I will use all the money pledged for:
- Art supplies to finish the series and be able to get some big scale drawings/illustrations done
- Decorating my space
- Framing the paintings
- Labels for each painting
- Printing leaflets and business cards
- Printing, shipping, framing and materials for the rewards
Dreaming is not expensive so, in case the amount of money raised will exceed my goal, I will donate a 10% of the extra funds to the Gender Trust charity, helping all those affected by gender identity issues (www.gendertrust.org.uk). The rest of it will be used to continue exploring gender identity through my art to expand the series, studying and painting as much as possible.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge it is the little amount of time I have for this Kickstarter, but I am very positive and with the help of all the people close to me everything becomes possible.
I guess there is the risk that some possible backers will be already away on holiday with the Summer season being at the doors, so I can just keep my fingers crossed. :)
