The "Roll On" Kickstarter campaign has officially begun!
It's been about six years since we did the Kickstarter for my last record "One For The Dreamers" and thanks to you, I'm still dreaming! "Roll On" is an album that is near and dear to my heart. I have been in the process of writing it since my last record and in that time I have poured myself into these songs, trying to get at the marrow down there in those bones. And when I sent the demos to the producer we enlisted for this record - Brian Deck (Iron and Wine, Counting Crows), he pushed me even further into the writing and editing process. I can't say enough good things about Mr. Deck, and his expertise can be heard in the final product. Then there are the musicians, another high point of this record. I got to play with all my Chicago friends, who happen to be the best musicians you can find anywhere: Gerald Dowd on drums (Robbie Fulks), John Kattke on keys (Buddy Guy), Brian Wilkie (everyone) on pedal steel and guitar and Pete Muschong (The Fluffers) on bass. Then my brother in law Matt Ulery arranged a horn section for a few songs raising the bar even more. These guys made the recording process feel like we were just hanging out and making music for the fun of it. Many of the songs were first or second takes. There was a great vibe up there at Narwhal Studio in Bucktown, my old neighborhood, and I was thrilled to be making what I feel is my best record to date with my good friends. I can't wait to share it with you. That's where you, and Kickstarter come in...
To give you a quick snapshot of my expenses so far, including studio, producer and musician costs, mastering fee, video shooting and editing, design work and manufacturing for Vinyl, CD, and T-shirts, radio promotion and publicity, and a website rebuild, I'm just over the $30,000 mark. This has been the case for pretty much every record I've ever made, because I tend to think it's worthwhile to go the extra mile for these events that happen only every so often in a lifetime. That being said, I understand that these things can take time to recoup expenses from, and I'll hopefully be selling these records for a long time! However, even though I have already borrowed money and emptied bank accounts, I am still short on some of these expenses and need to raise some serious funds to get back on a good footing. So if I can make HALF of my expenses here on Kickstarter, I feel I'll be in a good place to have a little breathing room again for myself and my (growing) family. Yes, I'm a dad now, two times over in fact just recently! The song "Got A Light" on the record speaks to the joys of fatherhood.
One of the coolest aspects of this project is that we recorded video of the entire session. I'll be offering all the video of every song at one of the reward levels, but to give you a taste and feel of the project, here are a couple of songs from the album:

So that's the quick version of the story. On my newly revamped website, www.erniehendrickson.com you can read a longer version of it in my new bio courtesy of my friend and Nashville freelance writer Edd Hurt. And I'll be posting updates and backer exclusive content as the campaign, eh ehm, rolls on. So please consider coming along for the ride, and take a look at the different levels of support you can contribute at. We tried to make everything at a realistic cash value so you can feel like you're getting your money's worth. There are also plenty of "Kickstarter Exclusives" that you will only be able to get here during the campaign. Some of the more popular items from last time have returned, such as the acoustic cover song of your choice, solo and duo house concerts, and more. If there is something that you don't see offered, or if you're interested in some combination of things that isn't listed as such, please email me and we'll work it out. Thanks so much for hearing me out and for spreading the word!
Risks and challenges
The risks here are simply getting too bogged down in debt to continue living the life of a dreamer. I have always wanted to use music to serve the greater good. Only with your help will I be able to continue doing that!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
