I want to fully take control of the stage that I am performing on. I have been experimenting for the past two years with different ways of using a stage to my advantage, through performance art as well as while playing music. Taking control of the stage allows me to interact with the audience by actively changing the scene in front of them to fit my desired atmosphere.
I plan on building a box out of mirrors that will be 7x6x6ft. The skeleton of the structure will be made of PVC pipe so it can be quickly and easily set up and taken down, or adjusted when necessary. The mirrors will be hung from the PVC skeleton and will make up the walls on both sides, the ceiling and the floor.
Lights will be placed in various spots in the Mirror Box and will go through different variations and patterns. Their reflections will be fill the Mirror Box and seem to go on forever, creating a large space in a small area.
During the different lighting sequences, I will be playing music that will flow with their patterns and create a multi-sensory experience.
While taking control of the stage I have often turned to concepts that involve a very active mind that is trying to sort out multiple things at once, sometimes succeeding, sometimes not.
The Mirror Box is a way to combine both my interest in controlling a stage, and my curiosity of how our thought process works. Lights will be reflected around the box like music flowing through a room, thoughts being bounced around in our minds, and words coming together to form an idea.
